Yeah, he did it a lot. Not sure his rationale, but for me It's just a placeholder since I'm always too busy to leave a comment right away.

Re: This is not a pocket, in blue

Couple things, first your shooting yourself in the foot having multiple iterations of this, second it would work a lot better and fit the original art work more if you had a more realistic looking pocket. Just sayin.

Very clever visual trick, and I love the absurdity of it.

You thought it was a sea-monster? Don't be ridiculous it's a pocket elephant. :-P

Thanks for the feedback.

First, I got 24 hours to delete, so I was going to see if any of them did better.
Secondly, I thought the pocket looked pretty good. I tried to keep it understated for that exact reason.
Hmm, I guess another fail.

Re: Some Wear Theirs On Their Sleeve

I like this idea a lot, and the heart looks very well done, but I think you might be better off without the splotches. To me they take away from an otherwise tight design.

Magritte was a painter and always had dimension and depth in his works. This looks a lot more graphic and flat, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but when your trying to imitate a master you should follow his style a little more.

I want one of these brilliant designers to do a quick tutorial on shading and highlighting...
and then a followup on how they convert it to woot-flavored halftones. So many of these pocket designs are brilliant.

Ready? Go!

Honestly I wasn't thinking of mimicking Magritte in a style sense, but more on a conceptual level. He, as well as other surrealist were attempting to do a plethora of things with their work. One of which was to capture/illustrate reality in a new light, but also playing with perceptions of reality. I was thinking more about the concept of a printed pocket as a whole. I don't think that there is one printed pocket in the derby that I would believe was a real pocket. I was thinking too pragmatically, instead of taking it to that next level as you are referring to...
