Re: Give it a Chance
It would be lovely if the next generation could nurture peace... six colors on baby blue.
Re: George Woolshington
He fought for your freedom. And leaves and stuff.
very well executed.
Re: What they think of us
I thought the e was ebay...

Aw thank you saritababe! So glad to hear it
Re: we got the cream filling!
I as thinking of doing a hostess snack theme. But this is way better. Great job you got my vote.
Nice job with the engraving look!

But most people would pronounce an added s in "Jones's," so we'd write it as we say it: Mr. Jones's golf clubs.
Remember this label (?) is from a time when spelling was not consistent. I'd forgive any spelling or possessive errors.
Re: Tattered Liberty
I love visual substitution. Clever!
Re: Messy Burger
Good-looking burger and good background of stars.
Is this hamburger making me hungry, or is it just late at night?
Hmm, I didn't know Abe was known for his roast beef.
Re: All the Way UP
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the 238th?
A quickie Internet search suggests today is the birthday of the Marine Corps...or the U.S. Army, depending on the source.
I love to see one image expressed inside of or bounded by another.
Nice job with the eagle outline, too.
This looks like good use of a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator.
I'm glad I can vote for an unlimited number of entries. There are a lot of entries that are clever, fun, thoughtful, etc.
Who keeps statistics? Are there more entries (at least so far) for this particular derby than for previous derbies?
This is definitely one of my two favorites.
Re: American Dream
I really hope this prints, because I want it!
I don't think I have ever seen a design that was more me.
very clever! two thumbs up, hopefully this gets printed!!!!
Re: Dial It In
Moderation in all things.

thanks. you should still do it.

I do agree with Fishbiscuit, though. The Declaration is fair game with a patriotic derby theme. And, for what it's worth, just thinking about trying to fit the text into the U.S. outline is enough to make me blurry-eyed and cranky.
Thanks for the words of support, Ewing! Your design is pretty fab, I was happy to see it print last year. In fact, I had this idea then but wasn't able to work it out in time for that derby. And yes, I was pretty cranky while making this! :P
Great defense of the spelling - by the way - is it "Skiro Chester"? or "Ski Rochester"?
Re: Stars and Stripes Forever
Amazing work! Very simple yet very creative!

Ski Rochester.... combo of my passion for skiing and the city I live with no mountains
Re: Dawn's Early Light
Good drawing! Fun idea.
Re: American Fantasy
Completely rocking! Thanks for moving the sharkfin as well (insert scary music here). Did you add more 'waves' to the water as well? It really brings out the design outline. Obviously gmv!
Re: American Pie
Amazing amigo! +1
My favorite! +1
Re: Captain Americat
This is great, very nicely done!
Re: Founding Feathers
This is really cool, helgram. GMV (I voted last night, just in case you read this and don't see another vote and think I'm lying)
Re: O say can you see?
Decided to see how this would work on black, and a little distressed. Because who doesn't love a black shirt in the summer?!
Re: the Star Spangled Banner
I also have a version on black, which I think I like a little better: Check it out here.
Re: 'Murca don't run on TV
Idea popped into my head, the usual "these colors don't run" theme. Not too many design resources at my disposal, but I may try to rework it so it shows on a TV with a bit of static so it doesn't look so much like it was made in MS paint :S
Should I add a caption to it? Something to the effect of "'Murca don't run on TV"?
Thanks! I appreciate it

I like this too, but technically, since Disney now owns Star Wars, they're on there twice!
Re: To the Levee
Wonderfully unique expression of the Americana theme. Beautifully done with lots of thoughtful detail.
I think the letters show up a little better on black… Love this design on either though!
Re: Hey There, Soldier
This is my first submission to the derby, and a great theme to start with. I adore ephemera, and the old war posters are so inspiring.
Thanks for advice! I took one out. You're prolly right. Tho someone said once to give voters a choice. I'll just start posting more before a Derby to ask abt colors or just make a choice. Haha.

Now, a bit of advice from someone that really shouldn't give advice about anything. I've never thought it to be a good idea to offer 2 versions of your design at the beginning of a derby... the way I look at it, you are splitting your votes, potentially keeping yourself at the bottom. If half your fans vote for one and half for the other...you're going nowhere fast. I would offer one version at the start and if you wanted to float out a second version to see if it gets more interest, you might want to wait for the first one to fizzle. Just my 2 cents. Good luck!
