Whats the deal with City Of Oarnge. Why is anybody voting for that?

I actually laughed when I first saw it, and I'm pretty sure its not supposed to be funny.

That's the purpose of the fog, though, isn't it? You're not supposed to know.

They could also just include the +whateverpoints/? on the fog entries as well. Then you'd still have an idea of how they're doing.

Thanks man! If you can wait two months, I will try my damndest to get it published limited ed, maybe a hundred or so. I love the other designer's advice and plan to spruce it up. (That doesn't mean stop voting for it people!)

Have you seen my new entry, City Strikes Back?

I'm confused. Do you mean you don't understand?

Nice illustration work there, DeathByTshirt. :D

Edit: Well, I need to catch some sleep, so I'm going to assume you just didn't get what I meant. ;D Hopefully this won't be too convoluted an explanation, but we'll see:

The hotness ranking is based on votes made in the past three hours. That's the "whateverpoints" I was referring to. So, +22/?, is a fog entry that has gained 22 votes in the past three hours. That's really the only valuable statistic you're getting. If they removed fogged entries from the hotness, they could implement that same 3-hour vote statistic to the fog, and you would still be able to gauge how they're doing in the same way you always have. Does that make any sense?

Either way, I personally think it's all irrelevant, because the point of the fog is to obscure how those entries are faring, anyway. XD

Time for me to Argue my Rejection. The Taj Mahal is in the city of Agra with a population of 1400000. If other skylines can be accepted, why can't this one??? I didn't know it had to be an AMERICAN city! Just thinking outside the box here!

Thanks! My wife told me the image was too big but I didn't listen to her. Oh well. The design doesn't stand a chance with all the great competition but I thought it was a fun idea. I loved playing stickball. I'm originally from Newark, NJ and these strike zones were everywhere! We also played a version in the street as well.

So... I'm still relatively new to this whole derby thing. My first try was absolute suckitude and I'm not even sure I count it as a legitimate try. My second was better but didn't come anywhere close to being even 20th place and I have hopes for my third (but they're being dashed as the days go on). In any case does anyone have any tips/suggestions/advice for a derby newbie like me? And I'm also still confused about how to do the "vote for this" picture in my signature.

I had considered doing a skyline of a foreign city, too, but I didn't think I'd pull it off well enough. I didn't get to see your shirt. I find it disappointing that it was rejected because it was a non-American standard skyline. City living is different from country to country.

It seems that after reading the past few pages of posts, a lot of people are on edge.
In any case, the only reason I suggested change to the method of submissions is fairly selfish. I rarely find the time to brainstorm and create a shirt entry on thursday night to submit (while at work) on Friday.

I think Jack was running into the similar conundrum by submitting at midnight as opposed to Sunday morning.

It was just a thought. A selfish one. But a thought nonetheless.

What I do is create a smaller version for the signature and host it somewhere (like Imageshack which is free). Then I use this code (without spaces):

To find the "Insert Voting Link Here" link, click to enlarge your shirt on the Derby page and you should see the link at the top of the window. Hope this helps!

I'm surprised that woot seems willing to step on the toes of the Department of Commerce with the 'City Lights' shirt. I've seen rejected designs that bore less of a resemblance to the pre-existing design it was rejected because of.

Out of principle, those of you who liked this particular design should vote to keep Urban Meltdown in the fog (and put New Growth back in )

I like the design better this version you can buy:

Buy Here

But I don't feel someone should get credit for tracing, templating tracing or what ever you want to call it. If woot! decided to let go though, I would buy one I like the design but its not origional for a derby.

city bird... would be a pigeon i would imagine... and overall, it just doesn't appeal to me. can't speak for anyone else.

your barcode design is clever, but i'm sure it's been done before. i could see a whole line of barcode shirts that if scanned would say a multitude of things that may or may not match the wearer. such as b*tch or f*cker or something as such. not woot and certainly not formed into a skyscraper. clever, yes. mass marketable? probably not.

again, my opinion... can't speak for anyone else.

I just think that we've had this discussion before. Jack submitted that shirt right around midnight, and when the discussion started he had around 14 votes, if I recall correctly (I'm pretty close). Within a few minutes of his submission, I also submitted a design- the second 'zombie crossing' shirt. At the same time the next day, that shirt had about 26 votes. I'm still bummed it was rejected later, but I guess I should have put in a skyline behind it. :^)
I don't think the time alone could be responsible for Jack's shirt getting fewer votes than he would like. maybe the voters didn't like it as much as he did?

Most of the suggested changes above will result in the Derby being less of a race. I think they want it to be a race, and they want the voters to keep coming back to consider the newer entries. though, I like the idea of the foggies being removed from the new hotness, and their last 3hrs votes being displayed in the Schrodinger's fog box. They would get the advantage of being sort of in the fog all the time, without the double whammy of being displayed in two places at once, right on top of the page.

I'd still like to see a wildcard winner- picked by votes during the last 24 hours. This could be done after the original voting is completed. Thursday noon to Friday noon. The wildcard winner could go up on Sunday, and none of the votes except the new hotness votes would be displayed. Voters would be picking from all the shirts seen together. The display would be limited to random. I'd even have the image sizes be the same as now, but with a random display each shirt would have a chance to be seen biggie sized.

any opinions?
