eHalcyon wrote:Well... it just sounds wrong to me. But looking at it closer, I'm actually not sure.

I think the proper phrasing would be "I will not incite a revolt" or "I will not incite revolts", but I may be wrong about that. =\

Compare:

"I will eat apple."
"I will eat an apple."
"I will eat apples."

Ah I see what you're saying. I guess i'm thinking of revolt as a spacious sort of noun...

As in "I will not incite intrigue"
Or "I will not incite controversy"

I'm pretty sure revolt can be used in this manner, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, I had an idea for a shirt for a while before this theme came up. Basically, it would have a board set up where the king was put in checkmate by pawns, and it would say "pwned" underneath. When this theme came up, I reworked it so that the pawns join forces and rebelled. I even considered having the "heads" cut off the fallen pieces.
When I was done it reminded me of the French Revolution, so I put liberte, egalite, fraternite ("Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood") on the shirt instead, and just titled it pwned.

Re: Zombie's Revolt!

Awesome drawing.

No text.

A bit smaller on the shirt with an off-center placement...

Some color in the design and a better shirt color.

This would be a fog-worthy entry with those things looked over!

Yeah, that's why I'm not sure about it now. But "incite revolt" sounds wrong to me, and my instincts are usually correct when it comes to grammar (though not always). Other people noticed something wrong as well; I can't see what else it could be.

derekfilley wrote:No offense meant here, but is the russian revolution really something to be admired? Communism is responsible for the deaths of millions of innocent people, and Russia is still struggling to get back on it's feet after the 70 or so years since this 'revolution'.

What exactly were you going for?

The original goal of the Bolsheviks under Lenin was to establish a government in which the working class had a greater say, so this revolution varied little from that of the American Revolution. The socialist ideas Lenin instilled afterwards were ideals such as universal health care and economic recovery to help out Russia in its time of need. Unfortunately, it went sour, but the revolution mentioned here is still noble in its cause.

This is excellent, but I don't think it would print well. I'd be concerned that the thinker image wouldn't show up very well.

Regardless, I find it great that someone places their values (what you refer to as an "agenda") above winning and monetary compensation. But hey, I'm an idealist.

I believe they already rejected a shirt for politicing this derby. Something about Obama, I think.

Anyways, as someone who played the old school Civilization board game from youth, I appreciate the historical element in this piece. Well done.

Not because I'm argumentative or anything, I just like a good natured grammar debate.

This is from the new heritage dictionary.
3. The state of a person or persons in rebellion: students in revolt over administrative policies.

I think this is the usage I'm using. Although I'm no english teacher or anything.

I think it might simply not be common usage, though technically correct. I wouldn't have found it strange if it said "I will not incite revolution". "Revolt" is synonymous, so your sentence is fine, I think. It just sounds strange to me. =P

I just realized that we're talking about grammar on the internet. That's so stoopidz!!!11!2

My wife had the same concern. It's kind of crazy actually, the blue is much lighter on my screen than hers... I could resubmit it with the thinker in the same color as the text or just a lighter shirt color- would one of those be better? I originally had a vector version of the thinker in different shades of brown - I really like that version but was having trouble with the pantone palette, showing the layers, and making it less than 6 colors. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is my first stab at this. Thanks.

Let's take a step beyond the classic flower-filled Hawaiian shirt designs, and revolutionize it into something more modern. Think abstractly, revolt against classical ideas, but don't make things too complicated. I never said that the flowery theme wasn't good, but who said it couldn't be improved? Thus, I present to you, Hawaiian Revolution.

Re: Peasant Revolt

this is a great shirt, and when i clicked i would buy one i actually meant it. usually i am someone who never wears any text on a shirt, but i think having pwned! on it makes it a bit more clever of a shirt.

the only thing i would change is perhaps have the pieces the pawn is bringing down be a different color than the pawn. but as it is i think it's good and would still buy it! i hope it makes it to top 3!
