Sometimes it's not fun for me to make an alphabet or slogan shirt. I've got one I'm working on that's a really time intensive wolf shirt but it wouldn't fit into any of the themes woot puts up. I worked all evening yesterday on my "nowhere" shirt in this derby and it doesn't get a lot of votes. Big deal. It was fun and I thought it was funny. I just like getting feedback so I get better. So to all of you who take the time to discuss what we're doing and support each other, that's awesome. That's why we design.
I've seen DBH and am working on some things for them. I like it too because there are fewer restrictions. There, I can just work on a shirt I think is cool. Over here, it seems you have to design for a specific audience. Which I have been trying to do. I don't think I deserve to win the derby any more than any of the other wonderful designs that get submitted but never make it to the fog, I just get frustrated being down in the echelons with people who have MS Paint style shirts. Getting ~100 votes or into the hotness category would jazz me up and encourage me to come back next week and try harder. But getting barely 25 after a week is rather discouraging. This one seems to be a doing a little better. Maybe I'm on track for ~50.
Ultimately, I am doing stuff that I think is clever and fairly well executed and hoping that other people like it as well. But it doesn't seem like too many people its clever and witty enough. Maybe if the yetis were holding joysticks instead?
Well hey I dont mean to complain about the yetis yet. We'll see what happens with them. Mostly grumbling about past weeks at this point.
What I also like about DBH is that its not just who gets the most votes in a set period. If a shirt is getting good rave reviews, then they make the decision to print it as a shirt of the day. Here on woot the masses win, and there's been plenty of shirts that get voted by the masses but then don't sell out. Seems like a lot of the time people think the idea or graphic or whatever is clever, but when it comes down to it, they probably wouldn't wear the shirt.
