sometimes I feel the same way, but there's a culture you have to pay attention to on woot, and that's the cute, niche-y shirt. Just look at the shirts that get close to the top. They generally have some computer/game reference or odd cute thing about them. If you feel like you're not having fun with the derby go over to designbyhumans.com and you can make what you want and the options are a lot more diverse. But unlike woot, there's a submission check to see if it's good enough. That's where I do my best work anyway.

eHalcyon wrote:Now that's not fair. Though it's common knowledge by now that this has been done before, there are plenty of ethical designers out here. And woot's done something to curtail hotness rigging as well.

You're right. That's not fair. Edited for fairness

Of course no one wins a derby doing something like that, cause I doubt anyone has 500+ accounts laying around. All I'm saying is it would be nice to break 100 or 200 votes. That would be encouraging. But when my designs, which have all been fairly clever and original (not to sound like I'm full of myself) disappear into the nether regions, its pretty discouraging.

Pretty slick. Lots of detail, yet still managed to stay in the color limit! Pretty cool when you can show that kind of diversity with only six colors

Pretty sure it's a play off of 'Dominican Republic'... nice shirt dude. I'm in if it wins.

Edit: Just picked up on the "Obey Us" but still need more. Not getting the "Sublimican" part.

Re: Cosmic Music Nation

I'm a big fan of trippy music. I absolutely love Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Phish, and others. This is the symbol for the imaginary land in your head when you sit back, close your eyes, and listen to Another Brick in the Wall or All Along the Watchtower.

Sublime can also mean an emotional state that can't be expressed in words. It's an aesthetic judgment.

Latin for Sweet is dulcis, like I've put on the shirt (I've also included "sweet" in English, underneath it) =)

There's other latin on the shirt.. Candidae Terra, I think? Which means 'Candy Country' =D

Thanks! Some people should recognize the fox from last week. When I drew him for the Summer derby it was basically a throw-away entry; I'd drawn him freehand so the lines were quite rough and shaky. I was really surprised at how well it did.

This fox has been done more carefully using the pen tool. I hope that's a good thing!

Re: The Land of Dodgeball Defense

One of my best friends and I have always had the dream of owning castles on neighboring mountain sides and developing cannons to launch huge red bouncy balls at each other. I mean, c'mon, what could be more fun than attacking a castle with dodge ball cannons, seriously? This is the crest for that favorite dream of mine.

I like this. It took me a while to realize that the red letters in the scroll at the bottom spell out, "OBEY US." It's truly subliminal. It looks cool, too.

The trick is hitting on something people like. Also, it may not be the designs but the thumbs you choose.

Welcome to the woot derby. It's frustrating at times, but we keep on it. ^_^
