Home. It's where the heart is, where you hang your hat, where you go to play with your toys, where you turn when you need subject matter for a heartwarming cliche. Home can be a split-level ranch, a jail cell, a space station, an underground burrow, an entire planet. And it can be taken away, as millions of Americans are now discovering. If your homey shirt design can win the hearts of the voters, it will find a good home on one of our Woot tees. Now let's go home!

No text this week.

Interesting theme. No ideas jump out at me right away, but I should be able to come up with something...

Edit: Here's one entry. I've got some other ideas... don't know if I'll get around to them.

Hmm... this is another relatively vague theme, which means anything is possible. I can see recyclers out again this week. I liked the negative space designs from the last derby, so I might go in that direction...

Wow. I actually have some time to work on a derby this week, AND I actually have a good idea to run with. This hasn't happened in months.

I just hope it comes out as good as it looks in my head...

This will be a good time to dig out Sketchup! For those of you who don't know about it, it is a easy to use and FREE (as in beer) 3D program.

Good thing I saw that "no text" item, before I spent a bunch of time working on a cross stitch design ;) ...

Good Luck.

Isn't something like this true of 90% of the themes?

Bluchez, thanks for putting that in here! I really like the icons you've put together. AND I learned something -- I didn't know about the no beer rule. Also, not sure if it's worth mentioning, but I had a shirt rejected last week because they don't want any PIMP shirts...

Ahhh...looks like I may miss one more derby theme. Traveling again to a cooler climate for a few weeks. But, maybe I can work on something before we leave.

Congratulations to the foggers in the Green Derby. Good luck. Looks like the next few days will reveal some nice shirts!

Hilarious! Just one suggestion... Put alternate text on the images so that newbies can see the rule when the mouse over them. I'm no shirt designer, but follow the forums in hopes that one day I can have the talent to play along. What does the one with multiple white shirts mean?

Multiple shirts = no resubs - at least not without significant modification.

I've got two ideas now. One is with birds, the other is with snails. I prefer the latter, except I don't think I can draw birds. I'll try anyway though...

The problem is that bbcode, as far as I know, doesn't have any way to specify alt text. I've looked.

Maybe you could add some text to some of the buttons in a pixel font?

The text is available either by right clicking and selecting "Image Properties" or similar, or reading the derby theme, or reading various other versions of text rules on this site, or visiting the repository for these images. I really was trying to make images that stood without text (since that was the entire reasoning for their creation), but obviously still have work to do on some of them in that respect.

They actually are quite self-explanatory just like they are. I just had the one question, and when I saw the answer I was like...DUH! Of course!

Now I have to find a way to teach this old lady how to use Illustrator. I played around with it last week, and I'm in way over my head. But I'm not going to give up.

"Anywhere I hang my hat" always reminds me of the Tom Waits' song Anywhere I Lay My Head (I'm gonna call my home.).
Apparently it's also the name of Scarlett Johansen's Waits cover album. Blehhh. I love Rain Dogs... don't need to hear her destroy it.

From shirt.woot's FAQ page:

Can I design a t-shirt for Shirt.Woot?
If you’re one of those experienced, talented t-shirt designers we were talking about, contact us at [u]shirt@woot.com[/u]. Tell us about your previous design experience, and include some samples of your work. We will look at every submission, but unfortunately, we might not be able to respond to everyone. Your chances are much, much better if you don’t act like a total jerk.

For anyone who was following the discussion about submitting dailies in the last derby thread, I submitted a daily last night. While the entry itself was passed, I've been given the go-ahead to submit other ideas in the future. The point of interest - I don't have an online portfolio or anything, so while having one probably helps, it isn't necessary.

Good luck to anyone who decides to submit something for the dailies.

The people that they are aimed at aren't going to understand them until they are explained, therefore they don't really help, but instead annoy the rest of us that do pay attention to the particulars of each derby.

I'm not sure that you understand that some people truly do remember things they see as pictures more than they remember some text they skimmed. I have only seen 3 negative posts about them since I first posted them. Literally, only 3. (this includes those who even had them posted about their designs.)

I can't think of anything simple enough for me to pull off, which means there's gonna be some fantastic entries from the A-list crowd. If anyone needs a really cliche idea, how about an old woman living in a ruby slipper?
