DavidShenoda wrote:Actually jim, in sales, you don't ever ask for the sale. You assume the sale and if the customer does not want what you're selling you let them put the brakes on.

But anyways, who cares about all that. Like you said, you're posting it on you're own page. So, no, I don't think it's tacky at all. I 100% share your view of the situation. I am in the same boat myself - minus almost winning 10k. You lucky dog. Good for you though.

So, what brings you back all of the sudden? I read the blogpost you put up about the different sites you submit to, which was very helpful by the way. I also understand the need to "not sell out". I took it to mean you were done submitting on woot from the language you used to describe your experiences here. Don't tell me you just threw these designs together so you could rally votes at threadless? Really? You never cease to amaze. Well, in any case good luck with all your submissions

Im only back to rally votes for DBH. Although it's crappy to say, I doubt I will participating in any derbies beyond this one unless I can easily recycle a design that's already been declined as a winner elsewhere. Mother of Pearl was almost a winner.

Beyond that, I hope to remain a daily artist, cause these designs, although decent, arent winners here. And if they did win a position in the derby, I would Manos, the Hands of Fate my pants because I dont expect them to do anything but average. Too arty. And monkeys... little too depressing.

That was a "sell out." It's not my style, its not my content, and I made it specifically to my distorted view of what I thought TL would like. Too morbid without enough cuteness. If the monkeys were happy, maybe then they would have liked it better.

Anyways.. It's nice too see friends at woot, but this place isnt a place where an artist thrives. This place is for the people.

Also... rebuttle. No... Objection.. hehehe to your ask for sale...

Ask for sale, not necessarily means overt. Assuming is asking isnt it? Like going to unbutton the jeans of a girl you want to sex up. Thats not blantantly asking her to do it... It's assuming the sale... it's asking for the sale without asking.

;P

On another note, I watched Cloverfield last night. It was not nice. It was one of the worst movies I think I've ever seen.

Cloverfield the Design: nice!
Cloverfield the movie: I lost my spaghetti. =(!

Yeah, the movie got mixed reviews. Still, I'm glad you liked the design. Thanks for the comment!

great design, gaining votes fast.

I prefer centred, since it means bigger print. But I also like the one positioned on the side. What do you guys think?

Thanks! I thought it was entertaining and stood on its own without knowing the derby topic. But, as a fan of How I Met Your Mother, I can't see "Legend" without thinking "...DAIRY" Thanks for the support and votes.

llo. Jim, you're a great artist and you will do well. I voted for ya at DBH, I'll post a comment to so I can get that $100 from you. You can't ever forget about us little people that helped you get there, now!

As far as tackiness goes, I think the fact that you submitted designs just to request votes is actually pretty classy. Tacky would have been just "spamming" other people's posts with vote requests.

In any event, I mentioned your blogpost with all the pointers for submitting. I would like to see you turn this into a regular thing. Maybe even post an abbreviated description of how you approach making designs, like a how-to type thing. I mean you have the credibility to take on something like this.

Again, good luck, and You stay classy jimiyo.

Love the side placement more but the center would be fine as well. I would love to be able to buy it though! It looks amazing on the shirt as well as being a gorgeous design in and of itself.

Inspired by Jurassic Park.. but also by this guy, from the internets. Who I like to think is named Mark.

So, not that it matters at this point, but I think it would be even more successful if you had made the actual ram made out of clouds and just suggested the shape of a ram, less literal maybe.

Interesting... I don't think it's tacky at all when someone asks for votes- politicians do it all the time. I used the word "solicitation", which may have missed the mark a bit. Offering money for votes is the main issue. And since it's in your signature, are you not doing it every time you post a comment in other threads?

I want to be clear- I see "Vote this" and "Buy that" in people's signature all the time and I think that's great- it's advertising.
