If you're using Photoshop save the image as a JPEG and make sure you're using no compression. I find this hilarious and I think you cleaned up your artwork a little this would be close to the top.

Oh and we would be invaded by furry aliens looking like bunnies and quickly overrun, quickly enslaved and used to farm carrots in order to feed the massive space bunny army.

But seriously one of these days people are gonna give you and your shirts the recognition they deserve. but hopefully BEFORE the aforementioned bunny invasion.

THANKS!

Its a little known fact that Keanu Reeves' and other Matrix actors' stunt doubles were wild turkeys.

This excerpt was provided by Mrs. Silence Dogood:
MATRIX STUNTS:
The actors and the Wachowskis wanted to limit the use of stunt doubles in the picture; the directors wanted the audience to see that actual wild turkeys were performing the stunts.

The Kid: I love this one! I love bad guy cake!
Me: You do?
The Kid: Yes! But where did the two pieces come from? There aren't any holes in the big cake.
Me: Maybe they came from another cake.
The Kid: Oh. Did it have a lot of eyes?
Me: What?
The Kid: 'Cause the two pieces have eyes. The other cake must have a lot of eyes, but this big one only has two.
Me: I guess...
The Kid: How did they know where to cut the other one, so that the eyes would be in the right places?
Me: Maybe they just baked pieces of it?
The Kid: I don't think people do that.
Me: You're probably right.
The Kid: I hate this cake picture.

Sorry you didn't get his vote, but I hope that was mildly amusing. He's probably about as fickle as most woot voters, anyway.

Compare the two. It is both obvious where ski got the reference photo and obvious he drew it himself.

geez, you confuse me. a lot. I can't see that this is hand drawn from a reference at all. It looks hand-traced from the allposters.com poster of Cobain to my eye, and when I overlay the two, including the id card, it still does.

When I look at the first google images picture that comes up for 'cello player', a painting by Thomas Eakins in 1896, then I see that the rest of it (every part of the cello, his hands, even the shadow on his right hand) also looks traced, and when I overlay those two, it still does.

so how is this any different from the design of the day that everyone was so incensed about, which woot just pulled? what did I miss here?

I think it kinda goes beyond the theme. It really feels more like political commentary than Alternate History. Actually, this shirt, with the theme, is saying that Obama is NOT communist, because it's ALTERNATE to reality, right?

It does have a more guessable meaning than the UK one. But the UK one looks better aesthetically.

As for the message, I don't like it. I'd never wear this shirt, but I understand why others would. (I'm non-partisan by the way)

Re: Nevermind The Cello

wow Josephus... you seem to have some spare time I wasn't trying to hide my reference pictures. That was the Kurt poster, yes... and I purposely used the first cello picture too. I wanted it to look as real and recognizable as possible. Where you're wrong, is that I didn't simply auto-trace it like others have done with photos. I put both photos, side by side on my artboard in Illustrator. Then carefully drew it to match the photos (even where the highlights hit the hand). Hopefully I've proved with my other entrees that I can draw. This wasn't one of those entrees where people are going to think that I came up with how Kurt Cobain looks playing a cello with my imagination. But by redrawing it I was able to create the lines and shades exactly how I wanted them. If I had the stylized-people skills of edgar or tgentry I would have done a simpler version, but that's not my forte.

I agree with you, though, in that it's pretty much impossible to know that this is supposed to be Joan of Arc if the title is not with it, but I didn't know how to incorporate that into the drawing. When I was finished with the image, I looked at it and said, "I doubt anybody would want to wear that, but I'll put it up anyways."

I totally want to wear it. It looks amazing and I think everyone would want to know who the girl was, so it wouldn't take long for all my friends to know the meaning.

This is such a powerful image. It conjures up all kinds of emotions and images. I like how lonely she still looks, like she didn't solve any of her problems and probably doesn't feel better. I love Jeanne D'Arc.

So Awesome.

Actually I never said it was live traced. What I said was that I thought you "hand traced" it. It truly looks to me like the bitmap was pasted into illustrator, or photoshop, and then you hand drew the design on top of it in a different layer. The way that every part completely overlaps very nearly perfectly with no differences at all, other than the complete move of the man's right arm as a whole unit, and the slight identical tilt the head, microphone, id tag, and hair all have makes it difficult for me to picture you drawing it perfectly side by each. The cello itself perfectly matches, shadows, curves, every part is perfectly aligned, as does the bow, right down to the curve of the bow itself. I'm sure I couldn't draw it that perfectly, and frankly I don't know of anyone other than you who could. Regardless, I cannot see any difference in the way you redrew this and the way the french guy redrew the design parts that he used from the DA Staring Contest design and the Motley Crue album cover. They also do not look live traced, but instead hand traced.

I dunno. It seems to me that a good faith copy of an illustration ought to share the copyright status of that illustration. You say yourself that's what you did for both parts. Putting them together the way you did was brilliance, by the way, and maybe the design becomes OK through it being a commentary on Cello music and it's small to nonexistent role in grunge music as a genre. I'd agree that it might be fair use if that's the claim -but nobody made any claim like that until I just did.

Do you really think these line up at all?

You'll notice on such overlays as Broccoli or today's pulled shirt, there is no morphing... everything stays in the same place. In the cello alone, your morph changes enough that it makes it look like someone is bowing it. Which is to say nothing of the differences in Kurt's face. Yes, it is clear where the references come from, but no, it is clearly the work of a skilled renderer, not a tracer. Are you just so skill-less that you can't understand how someone talented can come close to reality? I remember you bitching about a Dino head cho did back in 07. Considering half your entries are totally unpassable live traces, I think you're just jealous that anyone can do anything artistic.

Which original are you referring to? He did a lot of self portraits. I studied two particular ones for this. I tried to make it unique, but it was a challenge because it needed to be recognizable too. Of course his is better, L OL. It's okay. You don't have to like it. Can't please everybody.

New reason for rejection:

Too similar to a shirt previously "printed" by Woot.

Shirt color change is not enough of a difference to be considered a new design by Woot. ;-)
