Wouldn't really want it as a shirt, but I really like the design.

I really dig this one. I could wear it over to my raw vegan friends' apartment for dinner. And, unlike a bunch of the other derby entries, as an adult, I wouldn't be embarrassed to wear it.

I decided that the previous version looked strange, so I redrew and recolored the picture entirely, hope it looks better now

mmm, it's a stretch.
I think I like the cats in the clouds version by humps411 better. It has more of the whimsy I associate with the show.

That is just a cool shirt. I dont think many people on here know what The Prisoner was (and its deadly weather balloons). I know it from the lotus seven in the opening (just finished a locost). Anyways, I'd like to own one regardless of the theme.

kylemittskus wrote:There is nothing in this design to show that the animals are racing, nor that the race is amazing for any reason.

Actually, this design is based on the Chinese legend that explains how the order of the Chinese zodiac was determined. I was able to ascertain the inspiration just from the thumbnail and realized that, yes, they are racing. I think the story behind it inherently makes it an "amazing" race.

Fun tidbit - the rat is first in the zodiac; it won the race by cheating (riding on the ox and jumping ahead at the last second).

Constructive criticism for Seki:

The idea is not particularly original in that it is directly taken from a Chinese tale, but the same could be said of tgentry's Sun Wukong, and at least you gave credit to the original source this time, unlike with that Dumbo design (come on - that was Dumbo). And much like with Ramy's alphabet mythology design, the style doesn't do much for me given the epic-ness that it's supposed to depict.

I also take issue with the proportions of the animals - the pig, chicken and rabbit are enormous, especially compared to the dragon and that tiny little monkey.

There's also the fact that the order is not correct - the rooster should be ahead of the dog. You could say that the race isn't over and the rooster can still catch up, but still - wearing this would be just asking for people to point that out. It's also difficult to say if the dragon is beating the snake as it should, but I can give that it's a close race. The dragon looks to be a smidgen in the lead.

Oh, and the ox doesn't really look like it's running. Then again, I've never seen an ox run. Maybe it's an awkward process (though speedy!).

Despite all that, believe me when I say that I really like this design. The biggest thing for me is the mismatch between style and subject matter. If you could rework it with less "cute" and more "that is freaking incredible", I'd be on board.

I hope you can take that as constructive criticism rather than the usual bashing you get.

It doesn't happen week after week. "Stalemate" was probably a fluke (reportedly a very slow weekend for whatever reason) and besides that there's only been one other such situation (Sunset 3.0 from Pixel Grid). Out of all the derby prints, I'm pretty sure you can consider those two to be anomalies.

There are plenty of other things you can say are screwed up about the derby though.

I think this may be your best entry yet. The sails seem to lack the detail you put into the hull (could use some texturing) but I really like the idea and the style. The perspective is great. The cheesy ship looks delicious.

Got.

...and 1 Random. (I hope Woot! doesn't pull another Random Roulette on me for a long time; I need to hang on to my money!)

Thank you! You are so right about the sails. I've been struggling with this design and finally just threw it up on here. I wish I had gotten it to a point earlier to try and get feedback. I will work on the sails before I put it on Spreadshirt or somewhere. Thank you for the feedback!

paulkremer wrote:I have to be honest radiomode, I usually love your work. I own 2 of your shirts, The Music Industry is one of my favorites of all time.

But this one makes me sad. It's one thing to have a blatant Mario ripoff where it fits, but quite another to FORCE a Mario ripoff TO fit the theme. I'm starting to see more and more designers use blatant references to pop culture for no other reason than specifically to use it, and it's getting old.

Agreed. And along with the forced video game reference, it's also scared food.
