Re: Art Deco Armadillo

I decided to draw an armadillo rolling up into a round-ish thing, um, ah.... I wanted to find a subject matter that was organic to contrast against the art deco style, yet at the same time had several geometric elements in its natural design. The armadillo with its plating seemed to be a perfect fit. I hope you agree with that, too.

Re: Deco Girl

I really hope this is somewhat "Art Deco". If it is, enjoy. If not, well...

Re: Art Deco Blimp

Hrmm.. stupid grainy upload.

Ah well, here it is anyway. It's an art deco blimp. I've been listening to allot of Zeplin as of late and that is the idea behind the design.

Comments are always welcome! Cheers!

They see me Victrolin’, they hatin’

1920s and 1930s, characterized by bold geometric forms and simple composition ... characterized by streamlined, rhythmic patterns ... foliage and sun ... angular geometric shapes, zigzags, bold colors, molded or faceted ... design motifs and details are applied to modern objects and materials ... geometric designs adapted to mass production

The period of this entry is correct for the 1920s and 1930s. I would shoot for 1920 to 1928 with this one. The Victrola gramophones are styled in art deco; the horn itself is styled moreso. The fedora matches. The border is distinctively art deco. The rays from a club light represent the sun found in art deco prints. The two color usage matches lithographs I have found, the yellow color not being in the lines slightly gives it the feel of a mass produced lithograph print.

Enough justification! Jay Gatsby hired this DJ all the time back in ’22. Those beats were so fresh! Sssnep!

The bunny reminds me of one of those Chocolate ones you get at Easter. Great, now I'm hungry again!

Re: deco-van

Now, you kids are probably saying to yourself, "Now, I'm gonna go out, and I'm gonna get the world by the tail, and wrap it around and put it in my pocket!!" Well, I'm here to tell you that you're probably gonna find out, as you go out there, that you're not gonna amount to Jack Squat!!" You're gonna end up eating a steady diet of government cheese, and living in a van down by the river!

The detail on this design is exquisite. I like the placement and color scheme as well. Good job.

I thought the bone structure of seahorses would lend them to art deco. Maybe I was wrong. Here's my best shot at it.

Re: The Hindenburg Falls

Granted, I'm no artist, nor do I pretend to be one. I am just a faithful wooter. However, in my opinion, I think this shirt would look better on a baby blue shirt, so it wouldn't be one big box of ink.

You know, if you had this is Fallout Green or a slightly darker blue it would seem a little bit more art-deco'y to me. As it is, great design though!

Still not Art Deco enough for me.
The gears at an angle just don't look right for what the style is supposed to be.

When I picture Art Deco gears, I see them as being viewed straight on from the axial position (down the axle).

The image looks cool, but when I first looked at it, I thought it was a lion, made by Fisher-Price or something.

Love the victrola, but the design should be a little bigger on the shirt, in my opinion.

Argyle in the style of the old soviet propaganda posters that were prevalent during WWII.

While it's a nice image, it doesn't seem Art Deco in the slightest. It honestly looks like the author had made this previously and used it for a derby.

Re: move fast or be left behind

I know it's not in the art deco style directly but the rejection hammer shouldn't fall on this because it is about art deco. I understand the style to be about movement and technological progress instead of just one narrowly defined visual convention.

I can assure you that I most certainly did not have this before the derby, nor did I think of the picture before seeing the theme.
