I don't think the bias has anything to do with cute v. non-cute or male v. female when it comes to sales. It has to do with interesting v. not interesting. And not interesting always wins.

1. engaging or exciting and holding the attention or curiosity: an interesting book.
2. Something Adder personally approves of.

Personally, I prefer the first definition.

I really like this shirt...I just don't like the color. I may end up getting it anyway, though, because it *is* very nice.

But I have a problem. It does not rub me the right way. Especially the commercialism regarding the iPod... disgusting really. You could've done fine without that invasive product shown.

See previous post about how it does not have to be an ipod, and it is definitely not about commercialism.

So is it always against the rules to use celebrity likeness? Because this derby just says no musicians.

katfin25 wrote:That is the largest image you can put in the little display box and on the shirt itself. But a lot of artists will provide a link to a larger image posted somewhere else on the net, or post close up photos in the blog of the shirt for people to check out. You can also play with the shirt comp picture and put a larger image not on the shirt in the picture to show off the artwork, and put a small shirt comp in your picture just to show placement on the shirt. Check out some of the other entries, Drakxxx will usually do the close ups as his first post in his blog, bootboots will show you a large image of her art and a small shirt comp, and a lot of the artists will provide a link. Thats what everyone means :-) I think this is really well done, especially for a first entry. Wooters just like to scrutinize artwork and look at all the finer details you put in!

thanks katfin25, appreciation for you has been earned if it doesn't get towards the top (Which most likely will be the case) do you think it would be wise to enter again on another derby that this would apply in?

No, my design is a play on the song, "Video Killed the Radio Star," but I realize now that I made it much too subtle I should have named it something a little more obvious.

This is my first entry in a Derby and I thought the paragraph I wrote in the explanation field for the upload would also be posted along with the title. My hope was that people would either figure it out or be intrigued enough to click the thumbnail and then see my explanation.

No, it's an incredibly obvious reference. My point being, video (especially in the form of a vhs tape) isn't exactly alive and well at the moment.

AdderXYU wrote:Since you've proven every time you open your mouth that you have no concept of art, it's not really surprising that you'd be wrong here.

The most important thing here is that you start off wrong in general, arguing that "the desire to make a profit via art does not invalidate art". Which I said. But if that is your only desire when making "art," it does. Which is what I actually said. Everyone wants to profit off what they love. But where art is concerned, if you do not love it, if you don't love the creation and love the inspiration and want that spark so badly that making a profit is a nice perk, then you are not an artist. You are a drawer, or a sculptor, or whatever, but you are not making art. And believing otherwise says nothing flattering about you. Art isn't about skill. It's about the intangibles. Nothing in the fog has that. Pretending otherwise exposes your ignorance.

uhh even if your statement "Nothing in the fog has that (intangibles)," is true, so what? people vote for what they want to wear, not what is intangible or not.

Wow... That's really nice... This is the best music themed short here, but I just wish that a guitar shirt could make it to the top. But oh well. This could actualy be a shirt I could get, but it depends. I mean, I play the sax, so this would be a really cool shirt to have

cookies... yummy...

Sorry, I assumed you didn't get it and I was trying to be nice about it.

In response to your statement, the song was released in 1979, a time when the vhs format was alive and well. I have no idea if the song was actually ever released on vhs but that doesn't matter. What does matter is that people see a vhs tape, even today, and think of the word video. The fact that vhs is a retired format is completely irrelevant.

I love this concept. Slice & Dice, Baby! Or in this interpretation, stack & build. Too bad it's probably too late to place, but maybe you'll get an honorable mention and the double take derby...

By the way, although my shirt design is in no way claiming it, video is more popular today than it has ever been. With the rise in HD technology, even some feature films are beginning to be shot in video. I wouldn't be surprised if video completely replaces film in ten years.

rcf22 wrote:Humorous shirt, and it GMV, but it's notated poorly:

You'll never see two dotted eight's barred together like that. Rather, you should have written it as a dotted eighth, then a sixteenth tied to another eighth note. Also, since the 3rd note in the full measure begins on an up beat, it should be written as an eighth tied to a quarter. The math is correct how you did it, it just looks awkward, not how true music would be written.

< /knitpicking>

I'll give a +1 to this. It's funny notation.

sneffers wrote:thanks katfin25, appreciation for you has been earned if it doesn't get towards the top (Which most likely will be the case) do you think it would be wise to enter again on another derby that this would apply in?

aww Thanks! jeje I think you're image is great, if you had entered it on Friday or Saturday I think you would see it closer to the top considering how many votes its already garnered in just over a day. If it does apply for another derby I would suggest entering it again - just be sure it really applies to the derby (wooters will remember the image and will not be happy if it doesn't apply, I know there is at least 1 image in this derby that is a re-entry and there was one that was in the last derby that was a re-entry - but both applied and people were happy to see them again). Also, you will need to alter the image in some way to re-enter it, otherwise it will get rejected because it will be considered a direct re-entry from a previous derby. That can mean changing colors, resizing, adding other elements, changing placement, etc. Another great place to get feedback prior to entry Thursday night/Friday morning is on the thread for the derby. There are some links in there with some other helpful information that isn't on the woot! page itself, but stuff that artists have learned through entering themselves.

There is also the possiblity of an honorable mention from the woot! staff, if that were to happen you cannot re-enter your image because they keep all the HM's for a doubletake derby down the line where people then vote for which image they like best out of those that didn't make it the first time around. If you re-enter and you got an HM then you nullify your entry into the doubletake derby. I wouldn't hold your breath for the HM though because its totally up to woot! staff and I have no idea what meets their requirements - A lot of entries that a large number of people think are great won't get picked up, but others will. I just wanted to let you know about that option!
