It looks more like a rooster (a Sriracha) than a phoenix to me.

I guess that's where the 'rising' comes from...

I can't believe someone beat me to the Fawkes joke! LOL.

Is being a Harry Potter fan a good enough reason to buy this shirt?

This looks a lot like the phoenix rising shirt I have already....

Edit- Here's the shirt: http://shirt.woot.com/Friends.aspx?k=3743 Ya, pretty similar, same color, this one is more "chickeny" and goes the other way. I like mine better.

Thank you for saving me another ten dollars, Woot. Too bad all the other tee sites have good shirts I keep spending my money on. If it were Woot alone, I'd be quite rich by now.

I'd get this shirt, but there's a good chance it'd just get retconned into a split-personality disorder, or a clone, or something else that's only gonna make my head hurt ...

Fun fact, the phoenix originated in Greek Mythology, but is also found later in Phoenician and the Egyptian myths.

Of course, all the little ones these days think it started with Harry Potter...

You know, on the book on tape, the guy says "Forks" so for the longest time I thought Fawkes' name was Forks. Until I actually read one of the books. Boy, was I embarrassed.

This shirt is officially my 74th shirt.woot shirt and it hasn't even been a year since my first purchase. Keep the good shirts coming, only bought 3-4 shirts since February

Also, lets not forget that the Phoenix is a mythological creature, so it's up to the artist to interpret how the creature should look. I find this shirt to be a fascinating interpretation of the Phoenix and more realistic than others I have seen. Everything seems realistic while still maintaining a mythological mysteriousness around the bird itself. One of the shirts that has more meaning in the interpretation than what you are actually seeing. Very interesting and is the reason I bought it so fast!

This shirt was like, "YES INSTANT BUY!"... and then I see that there's at least one pink hue. What are the chances that it'll come out looking like it does on the comp instead of a pink freak of ink nature.

Technically none of these phoenix shirts that are printed depict phoenixes. There is only ONE phoenix, so the very act of producing more than one of this shirt disqualifies it from being an actual phoenix.

Or something.

The phoenix is one of my favourite creatures but I don't yet have a phoenix shirt... this one isn't quite enough to get me to purchase. I really do like it though.

There are many theories and depending on where you look for your information, you can find differing opinions. This is from the BBC "Although the legend of the phoenix began in Egypt, its influence spread throughout the ancient world and references to similar creatures are found in Chinese, Arabic and Greek history. The name 'phoenix' was actually given by the Greeks and is the most common name for the creature today. However, the Egyptians, who founded the legend, named it the 'Bennu Bird'. In China it was known as 'Phuong' or 'Si Ling' and in Arabia it was called the 'Roc'."

The instant my browser refreshed, I thought "Fire Swallower", my favorite, and first, Woot shirt.

This, however, is no Fire Swallower replacement...even though mine has several holes, I will continue to wear it until it falls in ashes from my torso and rises again to cover my modesty.

If you are going to own only one shirt depicting the capital of Arizona, THIS is the one to own.

Which makes me wonder...why is their football team, in the city named after the fiercest of all birds, named after a wuss bird like a cardinal?

It was always my impression that the Roc is a different creature altogether. There's also simurgh, ziz, garuda... basically what you could do is play any Final Fantasy game and wait until you run into a giant bird creature. There are several varieties and they are all named after actual mythological birds.

er... isnt this like another woot shirt released a while back? I think one I own...

Salute, though. Not many creative people in Chicago any more, just the weirdos that try to shock and call it "art". Nice seeing this piece and to know it's from my area.

Never wooting again. I've learned my lesson about inferior customer service and employees that illegally modify your signature (18 U.S.C. § 1029). Grow up, woot. (Edit of Mod edit: I am telling the truth about you modifying my signature to slander me. I am not attacking people. You dont qualify as "people" until you call me back and I hear a voice on the phone, then we can discuss how your employees are harassing me.) Still no response Since December 2010.

That's good or bad depending on if you're a boy or a girl. But I agree, this shirt in no way compares to Fire Swallower, though I wouldn't have bought that one either.

Yeah, I used to play Heroes of Might and Magic, and they had a "Roc" as a creature you could employ in your army if you were a Wizard. It looked NOTHING like a Phoenix. It looked more like a red tailed hawk in the game. But also in the game was a Phoenix that you could get if you were a Sorcerer, so maybe they made them differently for that reason.

Funny you mentioned Final Fantasy, as this shirt kind of reminded me of those awesome times when I summoned the Phoenix. What a powerful creature.

Either way, the fact that most of the advanced civilizations from the ancient world had a mystical bird in their stories, history or even religiously interpreted. It seems the bird itself is a front for something much more involving.
