First entry into a derby. For some reason the picure is more skewed vertically than it's supposed to be. I made the thumbnail in a rush... probably the problem.

Munchy Attack If you can find the name of this artist & real song title I'll buy you a daily woot shirt (your choice what day)

enlighten me as to why you can't see yourself getting this in the mail? It's not like you're buying the bag, you're buying the t-shirt that's in the bag.

When you want to buy something from other sites do you first email them to ask what the package is going to look like just to make sure it's something "you can see yourself getting in the mail"?

Woot doesn't have to put anything on their bags, this is just something extra they're doing. If this is the design chosen to be printed on the bags, and you decide to stop buying shirts from this site because of it, then i think you have a much bigger problem... but honestly, i think you'll be fine.

WOW, great minds and all...

This thing grew and grew in complexity as I was creating it.

My original idea was for a hand pulling the woot logo from the tree.

Then i thought, i'll need a branch to hang the logo from.

Then I thought, what about the serpent? That'd look cool hanging from the tree.

Then I thought, why just have him near by, when i could wrap his body around her arm?

Then I thought, why just loop him, when i can have him twisted in on himself too?

Then I thought, what it the logo was glowing? Her hand would glow and the scales on the snake would glow too?

I piled alot more work on myself with each step, but i think it was all worth it when i finally finished the composition.

These 2 posts reflect to me what's so good about this design:

CrescentDebris wrote:Great job on all the micro pics. I've done program icons before so I know that the size of the image does NOT reflect the time it takes to make. Its challenging cramming a recognizable image into a tiny space.

SkekTek wrote:Thanks! Yeah, little drawings are hard to do with 1 pixel lines to make sure they're printable and still recognizable. The 3 ink colors was also tough.

The challenge, hard work, and execution.
You don't have to like it, but he did work hard on this, and it shows.

Just resubmit! The Woot staff makes mistakes all of the time. But they never correct them. Just resub, and add your comment on the first line.

krisrobinson wrote:I actually tried it like you suggested above, but because of the high detail and low color count using the blue and yellow to highlight all the little pieces of the design just started to get messy. I settled on using the blue ONLY for the woot logo to make it stand out from the crowd, and tried yellow for the design elements which still didn't work for me, but when placing it behind like I have really made the design pop (especially on the bag comp which I really liked) but at the same time kept it easy on the eyes - I really liked it. I added yellow to the "liquid" elements just to separate them a little. And the "big marker" effect you were talking about was just what I was going for, it's a style I admire a few artists for and tried to replicate it here to give it a free flow style amid the rigid machinery in the rest of the design.

I had wondered the same thing, thank you for explaining the decision you went with. I still think there's an overwhelming about of woot orange/yellow/whateveritis (personal taste), but think the design is top notch. GMV for giving more detail on the decision to go the way you did.

Oh I wasn't saying for others to not leave quirky statements. I was saying that I was not leaving any for the night.

Please leave some cowbell, bagels, and something funny to say. I have had a bad day and it would be nice to read something funny.

Yay multiple accounts?

Part of the problem is probably that the tiny one isn't really noticeable. These designs are essentially branding the bag and as such needs to have the logo be at least semi-prominent.

You could just replace the center image with a single large logo.

I have to agree. We all have to follow the rules. If putting a tiny logo in the bottom corner was all that was required to fufill woot's requirements, don't you think we'd all have done that and drawn whatever we wanted?

The point is to do an illustration that brings attention to the logo, not place it somewhere just as an afterthought.

Nice, but with the other graphic elements (the man) intruding over the top of the mark, it will ultimately be rejected.

Re: The Woot Frame

Thanks everyone! It always seems that when I have a week to work on an entry I still only find 1 day to work on it. I had no expectations of being at the top but this idea popped in my head and I thought it would at least be a rather unique entry. It was fun to work on. Especially since I didn't have to decide on colors. Oh the pains of deciding on colors sometimes.

You stretched the mark. The official woot princesses will Bobo-style to kiss this frog, and end up rejecting it. Might as well get started now on a resubmit where the official woot 'mark' is not stretched.

(Why can't people read the rules? just amazed at all the rejections as a result of simply failing to understand basic english, or apparently noteven reading the rules.)

Having other things cover up any portion of the 'mark' (the official logo) will get you rejected based on the current crop of rejections. You might want to work on a resub.

earthart wrote:Hello again. Sorry I didn't get to this sooner. My middle name is sidetracked and I ended up hanging with the family until we put my son to bed.

I had trouble getting a full detail version down to manageable file size. The original is vector and is huge so I rasterized it. Please note I had to reduce image quality down to 0% just to get it down to 600kb, so the image quality is not the best, but at least it is a full detail version as you requested.

Rather than post it here and anger anyone visiting who might have a slower connection, I posted it to photobucket and you can view it here. Click on the default image once it loads to enlarge it to full size. Thanks again for the great feedback.

i have to disagree. he followed the letter of the law by putting in an intact logo, albeit in the corner. he also followed the spirit of the law by placing the logo prominently in the center, although slightly modified to fit the design.
