Not to be overly negative but it's pretty small minded of you to go on and on about negative criticism when you're referencing a post by a user who went well out of his way to be constructive and avoid any needless insults.

It's also highly suspect that you seem to have the idea that criticism cannot be positive and cannot be constructive. All of the concerns about this shirt posted so far are legitimate and well stated without needlessly resorting to personal attacks or negativity.

The bottom line is that there is no real parody going on in this shirt. While you may like it and clearly others do as well, I myself along with many others do not believe that people should be able to profit off the work of others. This is not in the fog because of the art. It's in the fog because it is clearly from Mario Brothers.

With so many other artists who put in just as much effort into original work, I see no reason to reward people for reproducing pop culture. This is all that has been stated previously and there has been nothing said against the artist.

So please remove yourself from the soap box. If you don't like it don't say anything is not a legitimate complaint. If you don't like it do something better or shut up is not a legitimate complaint. Just as you have the right to comment on what you like about the design so anyone else has the right to comment on what they do not like. That is the only way anyone can improve and as an artist you should understand this.

I have to say, I like this shirt much better than the fogged entry at the moment. You haven't resorted to putting the "Look, it's-a-MARIO" stamp on your shirt to get attention. And when the other one gets rejected for not being a parody (which it had better... though these days, who am I kidding), people will hopefully take the 5 seconds worth of time to notice that this is a much better shirt and vote you up.

Your style is unique. I appreciate how it's gross and urgent, yet somehow cute at the same time. Something about the wavy lines and uneven shading just jumps off the shirt. I love the way you pulled off and I sincerely hope you keep subbing in the future.

My only nitpick would be that I'm not really very fond of the black shirt as a background here. But that could very well be personal preference creeping in there so don't pay it much mind.

A cop-out is a cop-out. Your use of the source material isn't different enough in my opinion to be a parody. I suppose it's for Woot to decide... *sigh*

LOL! That's funny. I NEVER said I liked the design. You are putting words into my mouth (or text). In addition, if you read the bottom of my first post. I said this is not in specific reference to this design. I have read MANY comments that are (for lack of better words) MEAN about any art. It just so happens that this design is a video game reference. Some people are so hateful to others even on original work. I am only trying to promote some positive and constructive criticism. The dude could have simply said, "Hey why don't you try this, man. I really think it would make it more of a parody." I mean, the guy wasn't all critical and as I stated at the bottom of my first post, he did attempt to be positive. Unfortunately, my argument has been limited to a video game reference and I am trying to exceed that.

You are absolutely right about using other people's work. I don't agree with that one bit and I was not intending to promote that. My point is to be positive on all work. I have seen some serious bashing on pretty decent work that was in fact original.

What's wrong with my soap box as long as I am at least promoting something genuinely good? I am sorry that my trying to encourage positive behavior is too much for you. I think that I do have a legitimate complaint. I am certainly not the only one who thinks so.

This is a resub of an absolutely horrible entry I submitted earlier. Seriously, it was bad. Not good.

Anyways, I think this turned out oodles better, so thank you parrotworks for suggesting that I re-vamp the design into something less grotesque. Also, thanks to sugareeali for providing some honest feedback to also prompt me to re-do the design a tad.

: ( On a side note, I wanted to do another trivia question with a prize for this derby, but I didn't have time to make the prize. If I do, then I'll post a question and make it another game again, but if I don't, then maybe next week! I rather like games.

It seems I have taken up a lost cause. I have seen some artists on Woot who genuinely want to help others and some who could care less. Art has always been one of those "subjects" that was open to interpretation and appreciated even for its "different" approaches. Excluding the Mario reference, I have seen original art that people have worked hard on, annihilated by negative comments that were of no help to the artist at all. But that doesn't matter. I respect everyone's comments answering my posts. Everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion.

No you aren't, but this is the wrong thread to do it in. This is not kindergarten. We are all adults here (for the most part). If something is wrong with a design there's no need to flower everything up. There is no parody here. There's no reason to be fake by saying, "hey man cool shirt is awesome but it would be more awesome if it had more parody."

Those are not the same statements. The former expresses that there is something wrong with the shirt that makes it not good. The latter expresses that everything is great (it's not) and this could make it better. If you can't handle that kind of criticism avoid the forums.

If you are talking about the more nasty threads, this is not one so no need to address it here. And the threads that do get nasty are in the designs of artists who have time and time again shown little to no respect for the community, the rules, or any sort of creativity or originality and have earned every bit of hate they get. This is also not the case for this artist so it's still irrelevant.

Dude, you are so defensive. What is the deal? Did you not read my post that this goes above and beyond that one artist. It just so happens I commented there. If you are so gung ho about it's alright for us all to share our opinions in whatever format we want, why are you hating on MY opinions? That seems juvenile to me. Of course you aren't a kindergartner which is why I expected more respect of my opinion. But I guess I overestimated.
