Why is the horse-shoe the only one not facing away from the yin-yang?

Just by submitting, I think they've got it for 60 days, but someone will no doubt clarify that for you. Otherwise in general it needs to be 6 colors or fewer and fit within the print boundary and be on a shirt color that Woot uses.

More specifically, each derby has a theme. And sometimes specific restrictions. Like no text.

I'm not sure what you mean by "they simplify the things if they have too many colors" but if you mean that Woot will reduce the number of colors for you, that's not the case. If it's more than 6 colors, they'll simply reject it.

Oh, and no photos, no gradients, no copyrighted images. Lots and lots of rules. I'm sure I've missed a bunch.

banzaaiii wrote:cool dragon shirt, but its still a dragon shirt

I'd gripe about dragon shirts if there were peculiar dragon shirts in every derby. Have we ever gone through a derby without a any of the fuzzy usual suspects like bunnies, kitties, etc? In multiple entries? Once in a while, a dragon will appear, and usually it's in a design where it makes sense. We're not seeing dragons dressed like turtles or dragons playing poker in every derby.

When there are three or four dragon designs in every unrelated derby, I'll say the designers are making too many of them. But in this derby, it makes sense that there are a lot of them. Just like there are a lot of tiger shirts.

As far as this specific shirt, I like it. Colors are nice and there's some meaning to it beside "kewl dragons on a shirt." If it was rats, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like it nearly as much.

As far as checking out specific designer's work, is there a convenient way to do that? Say I want to check out some of your stuff, I can't just click "jabberjaws13" and get to it. So what's the best way?

Again, thanks for taking the time to reply

Not sure there's a way of looking at a specific artist's work but here's a link to see every shirt Woot has printed:

I wouldn't use the word "stole" something like this was bound to be independently created by a number of people.

Come on.... Not on theme, not in printable area - have you read the rules for submission to the derby?

This looks like it took forever to draw and it well done, but if I ever saw someone wearing this I would be unable to control my laughter.

Also, it might look a bit less jaggy, if you reduced the size of the sample image to around 800x800.

Yup I sure do wish I had more time to work on this before submission, just hope it fogs all the way to a print. Thanks for the suppport.

I just wish we'd all critiqued sooner to give time for a resub to get votes. Oh, well - it doesn't seem to be detracting from the current voting, and I don't find the compositional flaws glaring enough to not wear the thing - I'm in for one if it prints!

Wow his first post and already so angsty, thanks for pointing it out to him.

I think it would be far better just as a YinYang made up of animal forms, without the distracting splatter or a gap in between.

Re: Wu Xing

I really wish that this design would print, because I personally think that it is head and shoulders above any of the "dragon" designs in this derby. It reminds me of the "Fantastic Four" comic book artwork and I also love the illustration, coloring and dynamic composition.

Re: Zodiac Party

Love the entry, definitely on my list to buy. Also I can say that I don't care much about the plagiarism claim, as I wouldn't but the t-shirt that has been linked in posts, I can't even be bothered to find the link as it's just not that good. I would, however, buy this one because it is AWESOME and I would wear it.

Thanks so much for the support so far guys!

While the monsters are in fact dragons obviously, we did our best conceptually to make them a little more special than your typical dragon. While I'm intrigued at the idea of something like this done with elemental roosters, I don't think it would have had the same badass vibe we were going for.

Super cute and a better childhood memory than the Viewmaster. Makes more sense, too, since animals are usually what are on these wheels. Nice!

The one thing that bothers me about this is that it perpetuates a misconception that the Mayan calendar just abruptly ends. The calendar, like the Gregorian calendar, is one iteration in a cycle. When the calendar "ends", such as ours does in the end of December, a new cycle begins, like entering into January of the next year. In 2012 a new era begins.

I blame Hollywood ignorance though. People just soaked up the idea like sponges that have been sitting in an oven for a week.

I should say that the shirt itself doesn't really perpetuate that idea but rather the idea behind the shirt. I'm not sure how many people could infer "2012" from it.

I just want to say that although it almost killed me, there is no way I could stand to miss this derby! The topic is sooo cool. My girls and I had a loss in our family. For my Uncle who loved to draw and for the girls Uncle Tiger who , this is his year, this shirt design is dedicated. Also, in honor of dogs, please notice Obi, the wonder dog who lives and rocks out with my neice and nephew !
