Ah, nevermind about the Zodiac thing though, I know you used a tiger, and that in itself makes it on theme. I still like it

paigeg wrote:Still lovin' this, but agree with the others on the black - try a resub on a lighter shirt? That pair of scissors is pretty important to the humor of the design...

i think either way they'll be difficult to spot... on a light shirt the blades blend in and on a dark shirt the handle blends in. i like it better on black than white because it makes the red look better, and because a black shirt is harder to stain. :p

This is FANTASTIC.

Unbelievably clever concept, and great execution.

GMV, and I'm absolutely picking one up if it wins.

Agreed. If they wanted to see new things, they should go be an oceanographer or an astronaut or go join the Navy. I mean, c'mon, the world is already mapped, people! Seriously.

Great illo, the energy and expression conveyed is spot on. The blue does seem a tad strong but nice work man.

bluchez wrote:I really like this design. I wish you had had an extra color to spare to add purple, but I understand the restrictions all too well.

Griffin may be specific, but that specific is not Chinese. Chimera isn't Chinese, either.
I'd never heard of a Chimera before. When I was first exposed to a Gryphon / Griffin, it was a beast with the head of an eagle, the body of a lion and the tail of a snake. This isn't exactly that, but it isn't exactly a Chimera either. But then, legends and myths vary by region, but eventually people start calling them the same thing. (Check out the various things that are called "vampires" some day.)

And there is no way in ... *ahem* No, I'd rather not have added purple. I would have liked to have added hair, especially to the rat face, but Mom needed a driver to run errands.

I should have converted the colors to the good profile.
The basic objective is to have darker red over red tee. I know it is dicreet but I like when it is.

Unfortunately, it is because it is discrete that it may not print well. Woot does better with noticeable contrasts rather than muted ones.

Re: The Lineup

Woot has recently been rejecting shirts on gray that do not show the heather texture. Recommend you try to find a template showing that and resubmitting.

Re: Robot Monkey And Tiger

The design looks as if it's cut off from the rest of the shirt(I know that sounds weird but lemme explain). If the disc of yellow weren't there, it might be different.. As it stands, it's a big distraction and seems to overpower the spotlights in the back. I think it would've been hella better with just the red ring (because obviously it helps explain where they are) and then the spotlights. Perhaps even two yellow circles on each character emphasizing the spotlights. Maybe even a few circus props (a ball/ladder) laying around, but that might be too much. The two characters look awesome though. You have a great eye for detail.

To be fair, it doesn't have to be about the Chinese Zodiac. You just have to use an animal that happens to be in the Chinese Zodiac. At least that's how I read it.

Re: 2012: A Collision of Calendars

The most refreshingly original concept I've seen on shirt.woot yet. Great Job!

Although I want one of these, I wondered why you used the image of the pyramid of Chichen Itza to represent the Mayan calendar? Although the pyamid is believed to be an astronomical observatory and 12 month tracker, it is the Mayan calendar round (seen below) that has sparked the 2012 "end of time" controversy. I would have liked to have seen the dragon's tail trying to crush one of these.

Yeah, it's supposed to be. Woot's rules seem shady and sporadic on using the likeness of trademarked characters, but yesterday's shirt featured silhouetted characters so I'm hoping it's ok. We'll see if I get rejected or not.

Reawen wrote:What makes it slightly incomplete to me is the lack of land. Since the animals were crossing the river, I think a hint of land (a coast) on the far side would give it a nice reference point.

That said, I still really like it without, and if this prints I plan to buy it even though I'm not a fan of white shirts.

This is something I would have done, would help to anchor the design down. I guess it's a tad late now but thanks anyway!
