drop the hate people

So, all critics just enjoy hurting others? That has to be the most hateful thing said on this thread. Please, drop the general-isms and the hate, Mrspott People who aren't afraid to express opinions and perform critical analysis are people too, you know. Really, such hatred of others has no place on this site, and it's completely off topic.

Also, if every critical comment someone made was positive, then his comments aren't "critical." They are these things called "complements." There's a significant difference between being able to critique a design honestly, and giving only positive "critiques."

Re: The Ancient Chinese Raggon

This is likely not meant as a parody, but I'm rather tired of all the dragon shirts (even the well drawn ones). I see this as a nice subversion. Evokes feelings of "three lolcat moon" or whatever that parody is called to me. Not a fan of heather gray, but it works with this shirt, and the line art is well done.

I'm disappointed enough to see this out of the fog that I actually took back my vote from two of the shirts above it. Doubt it will help this see a print though.

The up-side ... another $10 that will remain in my bank account this weekend.

Beautifully done artwork, but I'm already partial to the pencil-sketch look as it is =)
I don't think this will come off very well on a tshirt, but as an art print I would definitely be down for one of those.

They're using American Apparel tees just like woot does (the switched to another kind for awhile, but I'm pretty sure they're AA again now). The print's always good (or in some cases where there have been mistakes, they're reprinted and sent the reprint to everyone who bought one for free).

Re: Twin Dragons

I got a lot of good laughs out of the "debates" on this thread! Though I usually do from any of Ramy's submissions... I don't get it, can't people just VOTE and move on? It's like none of you have lives, jobs, etc.

I didn't vote for this submission - I think the glowiness of the lines is a very cool print effect that I wish more artists could incorporate as a decorative element, though NOT as the focus, in their shirt designs. Also, the dragons' faces more resemble those of a dog (a wolf perhaps) than they do of the oriental dragon.

But wait - maybe these are LUCK DRAGONS.

10-1 odds that three dragon shirts win that are just variations on the millions of other Chinese dragon t-shirts on the internet.

So say we all.

This is exactly why the cylons attacked the colonies. Mankind was ignoring the message of the one true Zodiac in favor of false idols. J/k, a LOT of them up there deserve to be there... and who knows, if this shirt gets shot down, it might just download and reawaken in a different derby.

HalfWheat wrote:I like that the dragon face is unique. It's obviously still a dragon, but it's not like you've already seen it a million times.

Thanks for noticing! I really wanted to capture the basic characteristics of the Chinese dragon without making it look like the Chinese dragon that is seen in every tattoo parlor in the world--from the dog style nose to the antlers and facial hair. I do see how it could look a little like a coyote face but if you look at most Chinese dragons they have similar characteristics of a dog's or bear's face. I also didn't want it to look like Falcore from the never ending story so I made the nose smaller and the snout longer than most Chinese representations.

Thanks for the votes and the comments. And I am glad that it is being enjoyed!

Mrs Poot has a point, I'm afraid. For example, if I remember correctly, a member stated here once that they were intentionally launching a character assault on me. It was an admitted personal thing, nothing about my art. People routinely take personal jabs at others here, as opposed to actually critting artwork properly. How is that not hurtful, both personally and professionally? None of us even know eachother :/.

Also, it is perfectly easy to make an honest critique without being a jerk. Most people just don't know how to do it or don't want to do it, because it's effort. It's a lot easier to just to point out everything bad and leave.

The blue circle looks like a slightly modified version of the "Laughing man" logo from Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone complex. Hell I'm pretty positive it says the same thing that the logo says around the border.
