Re: The LIttle Mermaid/Moby Dick

Jasneko, you captured the magic with this one, the little mermaid is perfect, she reminds me of the mermaids from my PeterPan book when I was a kid, but of course it's my favorite ...Ariel!

Really beautiful, sweet and wonderful, also a nice oceany feel with the whale.

This is amusing, but I'm surprised to see it in the fog. The artwork isn't really that well executed, and aside from the initial "heh" of the visual pun, I'm not really sure what others see in this shirt.

Re: Noah's Ark/20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Wow. That is some skill with color there.

At first I counted the six colors in the rainbow and the dark outline of the boat and thought there were seven colors, then I realized that the blue in the image is the shirt color.

Nice work, looks great! Good luck!

As a side note: I could really really use technical advice with Illustrator. Is there a good online resource for illustrator tutorials perhaps? Or maybe someone would be willing to let me PM them occassionally who is well versed in the program?

mmm...like when Ishmael says that whales and dolphins are fish, not mammals? ;)

This is a funny design, but way too obvious for my taste. A really good Moby-Dick/Bible mashup could be made, however...I'd like to see the whale in Gethsemane, or Ahab overturning money-changer's tables in the temple. Or Jesus in a whaling boat, manned by dark-skinned rowers and with one seat empty, hurling a harpoon at a mottled whale with a white hump. (The symbology of MD is all over the place, it could be God or the Devil or the destructive power of nature or something we don't quite have a word for yet or...)

Eshto, the more I look at this the more I think you are one sick puppy!!! (JUST KIDDING!!!!) Seriously, poor Noah is going over board and that one LLamas mate is looking so bummed!!!!

All that aside...this is a bright and vibrant and detailed and carefully created image that is alot of fun to look at , I love the tough, heroic
portrayal of Noah...this is sort of like a comic strip my husband used to do.."Unknown facts in history..."

Very very nice entry , worth the hard work, for the visual you have given us!

But I'm grateful to everyone who has and continues to comment and vote on it. It's been a real thrill for this newbie watching it climb into the fog.

I made up a happy little story for this in my head. The squid is just misunderstood and wants to join the other animals on the ark. They fight at first, but one of the platypi is a pacifist, and intervenes. The fight ends and Noah eventually learns the lesson that all animals are God's creatures, even the giant scary ones, and they all become friends.

The llama still gets eaten though. Sorry.

And thank you so much everyone for the compliments. I had no idea the color scheme would work when I started and I am super stoked that it does. All I knew at first was that I wanted the rainbow in there because I wanted it to reflect a children's story version of this. The rainbow and the dove are always there in the toys and kids' stories, and I needed that color and cuteness for the humor. It was a challenge, that's for sure!

Sorry, in my original submission I had put the mash up info but forgot on this one. It's "The Time Machine H. G. Wells" & "The Tell-Tale Heart Edgar Allan Poe" Thus the Title (Only Time Will Tell)

I originally planed it to be the white rabbit from wonderland (I'm Late... I'm Late) then half way through I remembered the no bunnies rule.

Re: Romeo and Juliet/Humpty Dumpty

This is a wonderful drawing. I just don't know how you can tell that this is Romeo and Juliet from the drawing. (When I saw the title, I wondered if Humpty Dumpty was going to sit on the wall of her balcony.) Since neither the Montagues or the Capulets were royalty, the crowns look out of place

UNLESS,
maybe this is Cinderella and Prince Charming?

Good idea!!!

Originally I did have her in a balcony ...and I had one of those little beanies on Romeos head...after a while I realized that they might not have been royalty...and so You have
hit upon the two things that were in the back of my mind saying " uh uh..." The real story ends so sadly, not this one, in this one their wishes come true!

But I was thinking of you when I was drawing this, I put in extra sparkles ...(To make it look like mardi gras!)
