Re: Reflecting on Earth

This is very nice eye4spot, it has alot of nice design elements that look so great on a tshirt.
The water must have taken alot of work, I especially love the reflection of the continents shining in it . I love the colors and the whole overall look of it, a very snazzy design which still evokes the mystery and drama of what is happening here to our planet , it 's beautiful and mysterious, excellent!

Thank you for the feedback, SnowQueen. I'd been looking for your entry. Guess I'm not going to see it. I should probably find out what this "daily" thing you're talking about is.

The concept of a heart shape isn't new, but I really love Fishbiscuits design as an entity, I love that it is seen from space and I think the delicate handling of the halftones and the nice shape of the earthheart plus the gentle and appealing color pallet make this design superior to the other shirts that you found and it is different enough from those others to stand out as it's own design.

I am not just partial to Fishbiscuits, this design says I love the earth in a beautiful way.

Hi Shasham, you and I were both thinking beach...yes you know how 4 days of the week a shirt goes up for sale that wasn't in the derby? You can submit up to 4 designs per week on your own and try to get printed.

I spent 3 days working on this insane beach picture and I finally decided that I was going to try submitting it as a daily because it was so late in the game. My ego hates to not submit, but now it's way too late. I am going to love the design to pieces for the next few days then throw it into the daily pit and that will be that. I have such a problem with simplicity, I tried last week to simplify my design but I get too involved and can't stop. I really envy the artists who are able to depict their images with efficiency without sacrificing the artistry.

I love your beautiful beach scene this week, it looks like paradise, or heaven...one of those!! Beautiful job.

Thank you SnowQueenVT, all of your comments in the forum are always thoughtful and encouraging. You are an asset to this community.

I am just learning Adobe Illustrator & PhotoShop, so everything takes me a long time. I am totally in awe of the folks like you who submit such beautiful designs every week.

Cute design and very sad.

Why does the feet look so different from each other? Just curious...one is long with round, plump toes and the other is short with pointy toes. Talk about a hard time finding shoes!

Eye4spot, I just made the sound pphhhhllltttt!! Because your comment was so nice, and so unexpected. I love your work and would you be surprised to know that I never touched a computer until my 1st woot derby last December? I was taught by little old nuns in highschool who during computer class we just sat there and looked at the computer which wasn't even turned on! In college my focus was on illustration and computers weren't introduced to us there either...so last december my brother in law handed me a printout , it was a derby contest called shirt.woot. I said to my husband who is a computer genius, I want to learn illustrator. "Finally!" he said!

Now I won't get off the thing!! But I am so glad to participate and to hang out with you and others who are enjoying this process, and I really love your design this week it is most excellent, it makes me long for a year of summers, for although I go by Snowqueen, I am a summer person inside and out.

I would totally love to have your shirt! Also, I am very partial to your shirt because of the emphasis you placed on Africa, possibly the most desperate place on Earth, thanks for this beautiful on so many levels design .

One last thing, you have a way of giving positive feedback to others too, and You may not know what a help that is, but I want to thankyou as well because we all try our best to do our best and only 3 people actually win the derby, but everyone who participates and receives and gives feedback wins in a different way, we grow as artists and make connections and learn from each other , so many things. You know what I mean. So thank you right back at'cha!!

Talk to you later-snowqueenvt

When you go to submit a design, look on the left side of the page. You will see tools to download, including a template that has the printable area outlined.

This design looks like it takes up most of the print area: http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=41343

EDIT: Looks like someone beat me to it.

Woot rarely allows photos in derbies. The exceptions I've seen them allow are when it can be proven that the photo belongs to you.

Re: Reflecting on Earth

I like. It has a touch of serenity to it. And you went beyond the map-of-the-world concept to add something new and ... you ... to it. It's not just "love the earth" but what you love about the earth.

Re: I love skipping rocks

I used to like skipping rocks. And I also think you did a great job with the theme.
I don't think the splashes are backward. I think it's a reverse-perspective because we're looking at the rock from the middle of the lake instead of from the shore.

That's why I posted in the thread instead of "tattling" (other than my general dislike of the concept of tattling): so we could discuss what might set this design apart from the others.

Wow, SnowQueen! I couldn't have explained my thoughts on this design any better. Thanks so much! You always have such positive observations. Sasham, thanks for pointing those out to me. My very first entry was different and I guess I ended up here because I tried out some changes that were suggested. I do like this version the best and hope it is different enough with the stars and the dark background. Good luck with your design as well. I love beachy shirts!
