taninniver wrote:I actually used the asphalt specifically because I wanted to convey the feeling of a barren landscape. Green or olive would have seemed too verdant and taken the focus off of the sprouting greenery, and while I considered brown, I think the black outlines would have all but disappeared.
Just my reasoning for the color choice there.

Yeah, it's the best the choice, it just feels less integrated into the background than usual. To be honest I initially was thinking that she was emerging to spring so it didn't make any sense why it would be gray but I realized I had the myth backwards.

I think it's mostly due to the stark lines on the cave mouth. Either way I'm glad to see it in the fog.

Too bad these penguins don't look like any species that actually live in Antarctica.

Re: Persephone Emerges

It sells the transition from the underworld to springtime quite effectively. Hmmm it's very restrained but I like this a lot. :^)

Good luck taninniver!

Whoa... Did you halftone it in CMYK and then pull separations? That's pretty cool.

xazothia wrote:It's extremely easy to make halftones like that if you know how. And given that ilovedoodle has printed at woot before and at Threadless many times (over two dozen), I think it's pretty safe to say he probably knows how.

They don't look like halftones because of how graphics programs treat pixels when they're resized. It's why woot's mockup of today's print (the 8-ball) looks different from tgentry's original derby entry.

Then = WOW. I am no artist, so my eye says photo. Thanks for clearing that up.

Why is the penguin eyeing something to his left suspiciously when all the action is to his right?

Regardless on whether or not this was actually made with brushes.. all it looks like is a compilation of photoshop brushes.

Re: Spring Bear

Haha, took me a while to figure out why this was titled Spring Bear...I feel dumb, lol. And I think the "Woodman" would've had a better touch to it if it were rounded a little. Like make it look like the beavers rounded the segments a bit.

I don't know, just an idea. Good luck!

Re: A walk on the spring clouds

I think it will print too muddled. I don't dislike it, but there isn't enough delineation between the clouds and the other images (deer, etc.)

While the take on the theme isn't traditional I saw it right away. Robins/nest/eggs == spring time. The raptor is just something extra

Re: A Peculiar Discovery

Like warhawk mentioned, there's some serious problems with the eyes in those penguins... Neither are actually looking at the plant. The one on the ground is looking up while the one standing is... uhm... looking in two directions at once. And neither direction is towards the plant.

Oh... the one laying down looks like he'll have a hard time getting up... seeing as his feet aren't attached to legs... just a long torso.

Every April, the Wildlife Gaming Commission gives a handful of permits to lucky hunters. The Flip Flop is an elusive beast. Known as a pest in some areas, they are connected with frequent foot injuries of the locals. Flip Flops like to attach themselves to a human sole during the warm seasons. They are prone to randomly detach from their host in the most inconvenient of times. Most normally when the host is in the middle of crossing a busy intersection.
