Your work is excellent - good luck! I look forward to seeing your stuff in derbies to come!

I concur. Frankly, Clemetine was misplaced. She'd have rocked a few other recent derbies, but she's just not hitting the vibe for this one. The design, the art - wonderful. You have a talent. Keep working on it. Try subbing dailies, or elsewhere. But also keep subbing here! We want to see your work, and this is a great place to get helpful (and sometimes brutal) criticism.

Re: The Following Spring...

right on!

i didnt check this one out at first for some reason, maybe because i think the whole cutesy+morbid thing is often way overdone in these derbies, but now that i have checked it out i love it!

there will be regrowth after we destroy everything of that we can be certain. its actually a very uplifting shirt in a lot of ways.

excellent work!

You have to wait until it is printed. This is just a derby, where people vote for their favorite shirts. The 3 shirts with the most votes get printed.
To vote in a derby, you have to have bought something from one of the woot websites.

This is an awesome shirt. I hope it gets an HM, the expressions are awesome =)

great mash of genra and juxtaposition of themes (flowers and zombies). i love the colors too.

and that cow is amazing! the expression! its not that he's scared or anything, more perturbed that something is interrupting his meal. hilarious!

great job!

Honey, it's in the details. It shows you care about what you're creating, and not just pushing out cartoons for cash. That kind of thing is evident. Nice job. And another kudo for the safety glasses. Freakin' nice touch (said a long-time HGTV addict!). :D

Re: A Peculiar Discovery

i think its a fun design. not really my style but a good job anyway.

definitely riding the cutesy train all the way to the station, and i have seen better work from ramyb (heck, ive BOUGHT better work of ramyb's) but a strong entry regardless.

not sure its as strong as some of the others that have not made the fog and it helps to confirm the suspicion ive had that there is a certain amount of voting based on artist and not design quality (something which has been bugging me for a while).

still... nice work!

Re: TRANSFORMATION

To be brutally honest, that photo effect makes the design look much better than it would be on the shirt. It gives it that shiney pro effect. Nevertheless, this is a pro-caliber design. Better, since most pros go for the money without attention to detail. There are two or three fogging designs that this could easily displace, in my mind. And more that it probably SHOULD displace (my snobby artistic side warring with my 'wanna wear that shirt' side).

too cute for my taste (get it? its a pun...) but a good drawing anyway, just not my style...

i dont mind seeing cutesy little critters about to get eaten. it does not bother me at all, although that is the biggest chick i think i have ever seen!

good luck!

mjc613 wrote:I love the eyes on the bunny slippers - they look nervous! =D

d'Ya know... I voted for this design because it makes a great statement anyone can relate to, and it definitely caught my state of mind on those days. But the bunny slippers were the only thing I didn't care for. Odd how that works. I thought they were too animated and took away from the bear. I'd have preferred their eyes were dead doll eyes, so there was no implication that the bear wore live bunnies for slippers.
And while I'm doing the stream-of-consciousness thing - Woot? Ruling? I know bunnies are allowed this derby, but would bunny slippers get a DQ in the future. Just something we should know...

Re: Garden Sprites

you have such a distinctive style one can always pick your work out right away. it fits some derbies better than other, but it always makes for a nice image!

keep it up!

ps. you should make a collection and publish it or something, i dont know, maybe a calender or postcards or something? could probably make some cash from your art that way. i could see you getting a following in the right circles.

aleutiangirl wrote:love this as a desktop! I checked out your website and it's awesome, but I noticed your design from the most recent derby (the old fashioned camera) wasn't there... any chance you'll be making a t-shirt with that design available? It's my very favorite

Woot has rules that make it impossible for anyone to sub a design elsewhere for 60 days after a sub. It's not mean, but gives Woot the option to grant a second chance (HMs) or EC (Editor's Choice), which could/will mean the design will print. Granted, the vast majority won't. But it keeps hope alive, and buxx in Woot's pocket.
Cynical side aside (?), Woot is kindof a kudo, as opposed to the opposite extreme - CafePress - where anyone can sub anything and it's their lookout if it never gets an order.
Bottom line - Truffle will definitely make this available for printing elsewhere - on her own or through a site. Not to put words in her mouth. But she's savvy, and will have this out there with her other stuff.

im a little surprised too actually... not that a good design like this is climbing so fast, but that it has climbed so fast and far this late in the race! its reassuring actually... i have sort of assumed that something with such a late start would never make it very far at all and that your only chance at great success was to submit in the first day or so... but this goes to show that with a good enough design it almost doesnt matter!

you got a long way to go to win, but big props for doing so well so quickly!

The changes were to the stitching on the leaves and the eye of the needle.

And REALLY subtle. I see the change in the color of the stitches in the leaves' central vein, and a bit of cleanup in the needle eye. But I'm also seeing a photo effect in the comp is gone. Risky, since it changes the comp to the eye (that activates the O-shiny nerve). Bottom line, I don't miss the effects, but the change in stitches wasn't really necessary. It works, either way.

And, yes - it actually is something I would wear. But this is a Derby. People fail to remember that, and that they have to work within Derby rules.
I admit I like the simplicity of this design. But it still doesn't belong HERE.

It helps if your reply includes the shirt you're talking about. Since you're new, I think your replies omit the thread of what you're commenting on.
So, I have no idea what shirt design you like. But the bottom line is that you need to create a Woot account, and buy ANY Woot-offered product- from woot, shirt.woot, kids.woot, sellout.woot.... The you have the power! Damn, go to sellout.woot and buy a multi-tool or something for under a buck, and you qualify. Or, if you're in for some great stuff, click the Reckoning link to your top right. There are a buttload of some great Woot shirts for sale there, from the best artists, for $15.
