Even when there have been more bunny designs, they didn't even win, and people would still complain about there being too many. If they don't win and don't make other shirts lose, then complaining about there being too many is just idiocy. That just means people want to complain just to complain.
Don't look at the bunny designs if you hate them so much. Is that such a hard concept to grasp? I don't like zombie shirts and wish there were less... guess what I do. I don't look at them, and I don't post complaining how there should be less. Why? Because I would be a whining fool if I did... especially if they had not been winning or even banned for a while.
You just prove my point even more. Thank you. They have been banned and not been around much, so why are people complaining that there are too many cute bunny shirts if they were not even allowed to be entered? Am I just not clear or are people really lacking cognitive thought?
The reason bunnies are banned is because all bunny shirts, for the most part, look the same. Bunnies are used by people like fable and the obvious others because they are cute and win derbies, and these people, all of whom have no creativity or artistic skill, only operate under one style. By banning bunnies, woot is (ineffectually) banning the sub-par, oversaturated style the bunnies are done in.
As for robots? Well, for starters, there are a million different sorts of robots. Artulo's Breakfastanator machine a while back could be a robot, as could, obviously, the vast majority of Robbie's creations. Two totally different things. Much as a drakxxxian steampunk robot is different from the robot Fable used to draw often before she realized that plagiarization is a far better method to take. And within one artist, there can be a scad of different robots: Robbie, being the first name one would think of, has his generic round-head robot, but has also done steamship robots and train robots and wooden robots made by beavers and even within his go-to form, each robot has its own quirks. The diversity between simply one designer is far greater than the diversity of bunnies between ten.
To not realize the sheer fact of "ability to take things in a different direction" is to be ignorant of the reality. There are not a lot of ways to take "bunnies," and certainly not a lot of different sorts of bunnies to take on. Add that to the fact that bunnies are largely the stomping grounds of people who do not do anything different week in and week out, and maybe it might be clearer to you why things are the way they are.
This is why people don't want bunnies even after a brief respite. Consider other things. Would you want to hear the Macarena tomorrow? I'm sure you didn't go seeking it out when it was popular, yet it didn't take much for you to never want to hear it again. It was an ignorantly-popular fad with no artistic worth, and you are happy to be rid of it. Forever. Bunnies are like that. Videogames and Star Wars are like that. These are things that have been overdone so long, so often, and so uncreatively (seriously, if people actually cycled through thousands of games, I'm sure we'd have fewer bans) that there is ZERO worth to keeping them around. What you are suggesting is like a Republican saying "hey, you got your healthcare, there hasn't been a good GOP law for a while, so deal with it" when talking about a national measure to ban joyous marriage, or the ignorance going on right now in Arizona. These things are still toxic and should not exist. And the greedy, pandering, lazy work that bunnies represent here at woot is no less toxic to this community and the art community in general. It doesn't matter how long they've not won... they need to be kept out full-stop. The entire mongoose movement does. It's all about making top dollar with minimum effort. Anyone who doesn't realize the sheer lack of art in this doesn't really grasp the phenomenon. It's all about money. That's not a mindset anyone should allow fostering of.
'Course, all this ignores the fact that the "Designer" in question ripped herself off. This may be "legal" in the derby, but it should be looked down upon anyway. It's a cheapshot at all the people who DO try to be original to simply revisit a top-seller for the sake of a couple grand more. and this is a person who created a full-on clipart design a week after a full-on clipart design won. One who drew the elements of a videogame, without parody, to garner months of chart time. One who started making her pieces conform stylistically to the reigning otaku voices when the piece which this is based off printed. That people supported this at all is supporting that same lazy, self-serving paradigm. And you'll notice, the same exact names are defending this as defend all the lazy greedmonkey pieces. Including yours.
