mikenytola wrote:No, because too many people were crying about it. Check the designs and winners over the past year, and you will find there are more robots shirts by far. I haven't seen them banned once. Why? Less people complaining about it.

Even when there have been more bunny designs, they didn't even win, and people would still complain about there being too many. If they don't win and don't make other shirts lose, then complaining about there being too many is just idiocy. That just means people want to complain just to complain.

Don't look at the bunny designs if you hate them so much. Is that such a hard concept to grasp? I don't like zombie shirts and wish there were less... guess what I do. I don't look at them, and I don't post complaining how there should be less. Why? Because I would be a whining fool if I did... especially if they had not been winning or even banned for a while.

You just prove my point even more. Thank you. They have been banned and not been around much, so why are people complaining that there are too many cute bunny shirts if they were not even allowed to be entered? Am I just not clear or are people really lacking cognitive thought?

The reason bunnies are banned is because all bunny shirts, for the most part, look the same. Bunnies are used by people like fable and the obvious others because they are cute and win derbies, and these people, all of whom have no creativity or artistic skill, only operate under one style. By banning bunnies, woot is (ineffectually) banning the sub-par, oversaturated style the bunnies are done in.

As for robots? Well, for starters, there are a million different sorts of robots. Artulo's Breakfastanator machine a while back could be a robot, as could, obviously, the vast majority of Robbie's creations. Two totally different things. Much as a drakxxxian steampunk robot is different from the robot Fable used to draw often before she realized that plagiarization is a far better method to take. And within one artist, there can be a scad of different robots: Robbie, being the first name one would think of, has his generic round-head robot, but has also done steamship robots and train robots and wooden robots made by beavers and even within his go-to form, each robot has its own quirks. The diversity between simply one designer is far greater than the diversity of bunnies between ten.

To not realize the sheer fact of "ability to take things in a different direction" is to be ignorant of the reality. There are not a lot of ways to take "bunnies," and certainly not a lot of different sorts of bunnies to take on. Add that to the fact that bunnies are largely the stomping grounds of people who do not do anything different week in and week out, and maybe it might be clearer to you why things are the way they are.

This is why people don't want bunnies even after a brief respite. Consider other things. Would you want to hear the Macarena tomorrow? I'm sure you didn't go seeking it out when it was popular, yet it didn't take much for you to never want to hear it again. It was an ignorantly-popular fad with no artistic worth, and you are happy to be rid of it. Forever. Bunnies are like that. Videogames and Star Wars are like that. These are things that have been overdone so long, so often, and so uncreatively (seriously, if people actually cycled through thousands of games, I'm sure we'd have fewer bans) that there is ZERO worth to keeping them around. What you are suggesting is like a Republican saying "hey, you got your healthcare, there hasn't been a good GOP law for a while, so deal with it" when talking about a national measure to ban joyous marriage, or the ignorance going on right now in Arizona. These things are still toxic and should not exist. And the greedy, pandering, lazy work that bunnies represent here at woot is no less toxic to this community and the art community in general. It doesn't matter how long they've not won... they need to be kept out full-stop. The entire mongoose movement does. It's all about making top dollar with minimum effort. Anyone who doesn't realize the sheer lack of art in this doesn't really grasp the phenomenon. It's all about money. That's not a mindset anyone should allow fostering of.

'Course, all this ignores the fact that the "Designer" in question ripped herself off. This may be "legal" in the derby, but it should be looked down upon anyway. It's a cheapshot at all the people who DO try to be original to simply revisit a top-seller for the sake of a couple grand more. and this is a person who created a full-on clipart design a week after a full-on clipart design won. One who drew the elements of a videogame, without parody, to garner months of chart time. One who started making her pieces conform stylistically to the reigning otaku voices when the piece which this is based off printed. That people supported this at all is supporting that same lazy, self-serving paradigm. And you'll notice, the same exact names are defending this as defend all the lazy greedmonkey pieces. Including yours.

That's a matter of perception. Does Jewelwing's design WAIT! He’s my BROTHER! Nooooooooooooo! look anything like this design? How about In addition to your radishes, I will take this? Does that look like this one? And... The Revolution of Mr.McGregor's Garden. Those are the most recent dating back a bit that had bunnies, so I didn't just hand pick examples to prove my point. All four including this one look quite different from the other. Jewelwing's and Deadfrog's comments didn't even have many complaints about bunnies at all that I could see from a quick skim. Even mrwednesday was happy that Jewelwing's won. You even posted twice without mentioning the overuse of bunnies.

AdderXYU wrote:Bunnies are used by people like fable and the obvious others because they are cute and win derbies, and these people, all of whom have no creativity or artistic skill, only operate under one style.

So by this statement you are calling all of those designs I stated not creative with no artistic skill and are basically insulting those designers who you do not hate and are not people who do the same thing over and over again. Make up your mind.

AdderXYU wrote:To not realize the sheer fact of "ability to take things in a different direction" is to be ignorant of the reality. Again you insult the designers stated above without merit.

You are absolutely right, I would not want to hear it tomorrow. But if there was a contest and I had to pick the best song and listen to the songs and vote on them... I wouldn't click on that song and listen to it, nor would you. I know I don't like it, so I don't do something stupid like listen to it just to confirm to myself what I already know. Just as people who don't like bunnies, if you know you don't like them and are tired of them... why in the world do you click on the thumbnail and look at it? Do you not see how your example applies to what I have stated?

AdderXYU wrote:These things are still toxic and should not exist. And the greedy, pandering, lazy work that bunnies represent here at woot is no less toxic to this community and the art community in general.

Once again you insult the designers stated above.

Now lets talk about creativity. Let's use Chuthu for example. How many different ways are there do draw it? If somebody draws it are they not creative because it is something that already exists and the artist did not draw something all that different from what it looks like? Are they all that different from each other? No, they are not. Do you consider Drakxxx uncreative and plagiarizing for his two designs that won because he did not think up Chuthu originally? I don't, but by your logic you do.

I'm not defending this shirt, I was talking about people who complain about bunny shirts and too many "cute" bunny shirts, when there have not been any in a while... AND if they don't like it... don't click on the thumbnail and look at it and post your complaint about it.

Your logic is flawed and you are speaking from personal bias, distaste, and opinion. You can try to twist what I say anyway you want. The only people you are convincing are the ignorant. Look past your own judgment and understand how other people think. You are terrible at that. I completely understand people being sick and tired of bunnies and not liking them. I have the same exact opinion about other things such as zombies and skulls. Do you ever see me post a specific complaint about there being too many... especially when there haven't been that many that won in a while? No, because I'm smart enough to KNOW that if I don't like something... I won't click on the thumbnail and look at it. What a concept!

It looks like you are using cmyk as your base but mixing them where they overlap to make other colors. My understanding is that there needs to be only four colors period.

Its small dots of CMY (no K) and a combination where they overlap for a total of 6 colors.. The closer the dots are to each other the difference in color shade.Look at his blown up image and you will only count 6 colors. It is primarily CMY no K, overlap of 3 colors give you a total of 6 colors and the background.

Walmazan is not new to printing and I assure you this is only 6 colors.

Rather than a shirt design, it looks more like a painting printed on a shirt, like these: http://brokenasphalt.net/store/artist.html. The same image idea reworked into a more shirt-friendly desing would be awesome, though.

I actually used acrillic when I painted this. And yes, a picture from someones back yard did inspire me.

If this shirt doesn't make the top 3, I would love to see a version on cream! I like sakura-themes, and the design is appealing, but the dark asphalt shirt just makes the whole thing feel depressing to me, when cherry blossoms usually make me think of the sun coming back and things growing... if that makes any sense

you sure seem to consider yourself the authority on what constitutes "talent" or not. i thought something so subjective couldn't be set in stone, yet here you are proving me wrong.

anyone could make the argument that fable, seki, ramy et al operate under "one style" but then, the same could be said of draxxk, patrickspens, skirochester, boots, etc. it's cool that you feel so strongly about sharing your opinion on which style is "better" than another [as if such a comparison were possible?] but just realize that woot lends itself to a particular aesthetic, as evidenced by the fog entries each week. sorry if it doesn't jibe with your particular definition of "talent"...
