Re: De-baby
This is a print. Good job!
Re: Hear Devo, See Devo, Sing Devo!
In regards to the derby topic... are you saying we're all going to de-evolve into a bunch of monkeys if we listen to, watch and/or sing DEVO?
... wow ...
Andy47240 wrote:I like it. Looks like a bomb went off. ;)
That's totally what I was going for. :-)
Re: The Devolution will be Televised
This is a fantastic attempt. However you lost me at the potatoes. :-( They're so realistic looking compared to the rest of the scenes. It's jarring.
jboshaw wrote:In regards to the derby topic... are you saying we're all going to de-evolve into a bunch of monkeys if we listen to, watch and/or sing DEVO?
No, I'm saying it's the only way to evolve from devolving!
grypes wrote:You're really into keeping the logo one color. lol.
its going to get rejected. you can't change the logos in any way. i would love to buy this though!

Yeah, this is crazy awesome, I'd wear it and it's glorious but I'm somewhat lost on why the potatoes are rendered in that way.
Azurett wrote:This is awesome. I also would like to see a larger image! Thanks, good luck!
Link to a larger version is in the first post now. Thanks guys.
I'm a big DEVO fan and am thrilled about this derby. I hope my design conveys what I like about their music- high energy, futuristic coolness, and the weirdness of modern life.
Re: The Weight of It All
I see we went in a similar direction and in typical boots fashion yours is totes aweeesome.
Hmmmm. I tried the potatoes a few different ways and this is what worked best. I'll step a way a bit and take another look at it. Thanks for the prompt feedback.
Syphon583 wrote:There are plenty of things wrong with this design. Use of photo, no shirt comp. and just plain bad design. This looks like it took all of about 2 mins. Put in some effort next time!
There's always the person who can't recognize sarcasm if it's hitting them in the face with a sledgehammer. I'm glad, however, that this person isn't you.

I didn't think changing the color would qualify as "altering" ... I hope you're not right. I've never been in the fog before... :-(

Re: Simple Pleasure
Simple Pleasure (v2) No matter how technologically advanced we get, the pleasure center of our brain is still a happy monkey with an energy dome and ice cream cone. I don't know how this new version will go over, but after looking at it for a while I thought my first version seemed really drab and murky - definitely not what Devo is about. I reworked some of the design to create some focal points and redid the color to something with more pop. Hope you all like!
I actually like the collage look of this. It reminds me of something you'd see in an 80's music video or somethine. It's weird as hell, but it works.

It's nice to see science folks on the derby threads! Thanks for the comments!

Likewise. Yours is completely something I want to wear. I hope it does well.

zing!
Re: Primitive Mind
some of the "scholarly" or "learned" people are indeed some of the biggest fools among us . . .just ask Devo . .
Awwwwww. I do not like the color change . But, this is your design, so it should reflect your feelings on the theme, which you did. Nevertheless, your work is always spectacular.
Re: Freedom to Choose
Oh noes! I fell out of the fog!!! someone catch me!

I figure some won't like the color change, but once I did it I knew that it was the only way I wanted to go: bubblegum pink and blue. I think it really has a Pop energy that the other one lacked and makes me think of bubblegum and summer and other fun things. That blue on gray was so drab and safe. Devo has balls. I wanted this design to have the same, win or lose.

pg 3 of Derby discussion. don't worry only one shirt is chosen by votes this time.
Re: Fishy Devolution
three colors on navy
grypes wrote:It's visually neat but I'm sorry... I just don't get it.
It's a reference to the album-by-focus-group strategy they took for selecting the songs on the records. Their album is touted as having an 88% approval rating. I wanted it to look like a halfway-organized corporate PowerPoint presentation.
Re: Car Diving
We seem to be competing for 9th right now. Good luck. :-)

I still don't get the inverted guy. :-(
Re: My Devo Design 1.0
I guess that would be pretty awesome.
I love the color change.
Re: DEVOlving DNA
Great concept, I think it would actually be stronger without the energy dome.
I was logged on my wife's account.
Re: Devo-Slick
I guess I was unintentionally inspired by that joke. I had seen that episode but hadn't specifically thought of that joke when brainstorming for ideas. I just rewatched the episode online and there wasn't a graphic for it, so I don't think it violates any sort of rules, does it?
Great job, Robbie! Has a really nice pop-art feel to it.
This is a really awesome concept! I agree about removing the energy dome and would also prefer to see it running down the side. It kind of has a "neck-tie" effect to it in the center. Still, I love the concept and clean execution.

This does have a very pop feel with the warmer tones. I prefered the cooler colors, but I see why you made the changes. It still looks great!
Yea, I'm totally lost by the potatoes. +1 from me anyway!!
wgordon wrote:Yea, I'm totally lost by the potatoes. +1 from me anyway!!
I get the potatoes now... that is one strange song
I'm down with the taters, precious. For what it's worth, you got a vote from me!
Thanks! Spuds are part of the lexicon of DEVO. I've always taken them to be devolved people. Smart Patrol/ Mr. DNA is a song full of imagery like this (ex. "spud patrol" and "suburban robots monitoring reality"). This design isn't an illustration of the song or anything- it just goes along with how I think of DEVO's songs in general. As far as the aesthetic disconnect of the potatoes w/ the rest of the desing, I keep going back to it but it really doesn't bother me- I think it's stimulating. Plus I think all the half tones and high contrast overall will tie it all in together.
