Re: Heart by Peter Max

Based on the heart series of paintings by Peter Max.
Heart Series 1
Using the same color scheme but pretty much ending the similarity there.

How about something original man? You always do the same "steampunk" robot holding something smaller and cuter.

True, it also brings up the point that I don't think this joke makes very much sense. I do get the TMNT reference, but why would there be a Michelangelo bandana on David?

It comes off to me as grasping for straws.

Re: Meditative Rose- Dali

My second entry!
It's an interpretation on Dali's "Meditative Rose"
It's a simple rose flower where the stem and leaves are made up of the symbol for the word "Om"
I had another idea which was to include closed floating eyes to add to the meditative theme and the surrealism of Dali, but I think this looks better.

Pretending to be human since 1913

No bandana here, it's a mask! If the teenage mutant ninja turtle Michelangelo would make a replica sculpture of David, this is how it would look like, with nunchucks, mask, and all, sort of a personal flair from its creator.

The detail and style of the giraffe is really eye-catching, but clashes heavily with the simplistic vector style of the fire, trees, and cartoony lion. It kills the whole design for me. :/

Josephus wrote:But, how many Phoenix shirts has woot already printed? 2, 3? more?

Pfft. So why was Lithium in the top this week when Carbon won last week? :P

I haven't seen a phoenix shirt in a long while. And you can NEVER have enough phoenix shirts!

I love this shirt, btw.

Though, it seems to me that since the derbies are strictly popularity contests, it's inevitable that a lot of the winners will be similar to each other.

Indeed, if you are concerned more with winning than artistry, presumably you should mine previous winners for your design ideas. (I do not intend this as any kind of comment on patrickspens motivations or art. In fact, this entry GMV.)

I agree, at this point it's becoming an overused trope.

Actually, looks as if the statue might be a photo too.

WOW! thanks!

im flattered! i used reference pics to help with the design conception, but the art itself was all done freehand!

it took a lot of time and adjustments to get it right, but im pretty satisfied with the result...

parvin wrote:Though it is usually referred to as the "We can do it" poster, as your link suggests, that is not its title. Propaganda posters have no titles.

That does not negate your conclusion, of course.

Well, so long as we're all of the conclusion that this is offtheme, it's all gravy.
