Re: The Umbrellas

I like the asphalt, it lends to the overcast/dreary skies of rain, and it's a great contrast to the shock of colors flowing from the umbrellas. Nicely done!

btw, it's raining right now where I am, so I'm really feeling this one

Sorry about that! This is my first Derby entry, and I totally forgot to add a nice detail shot. Is there a way to edit my entry to include that, or would I have to remove this and start over?

Here's the whole image (scaled down of course!) so you can see the detail. And any pointers for next time from you pros would be very welcome! Thanks guys!

Striking, but not unfortunately I fail to see the reinterpretation of the original.

Nah, I think it'll be okay--it's got two-ness, but it's not Two Things, y'know?

And: found the text source. Yay Google. And even if it wouldn't've GMV anyway, that would've done it, so +1!

Yes, you can edit your first post. You just need to find where it is in the derby comments thread and use the edit button.

Hmm ... not thrilled by the placement, but I really like the alien bird-thingy, so GMV anyway. (And take my placement issue with a grain of salt--I've a personal bias for high-and-centered. I think this is still barely high enough to tuck in, so at least I can wear it.)

It annoys me that it's not written in kanji (今日は), but it's a pretty cute shirt.

And yeah, I'd expect a rejection for this even if it does turn out to be on topic.

Which raises interesting questions: Is an exhibition itself an artwork? If so, can one be considered sufficiently famous for its title to be on topic for this derby?

Not trying to be a jerk here, just ... well, the use of this title kinda gets into the philosophy of art, about which I know zip. I can imagine this as a well-worth-hearing coffeehouse debate among people equipped to debate it.

Just use the "Permalink" link at the top right of your first post. That will take you to the right spot in the derby thread. Then just click the "Edit" link.

Great first entry. Starry Night has been used a lot but not like this. Kudos!

I wasn't sure about the placement either. This is my third derby so I'm still trying to find my flow when it comes to shirt design and layout.
