Re: The Persistence of Memory
I love this!
Re: Flower Carrier
I really love the color choices on this :-)
really hope this prints.
Because Napoleon was known for being short we thought that a St Bernard may be a perfect fit for him.
Hope you enjoy!
Re: Inspired by The Great Wave
I like it, but for one thing, if I were a woman, I wouldn't be too fond of where the hand is. Also, it's not so much a reinterpretation of Hokusai's classic as it is, well, the equivalent of a photoshopping of it. For most derbies, I would latch onto and love this one, but somehow it almost seems like cheating for this one.

Thank you, thank you very much!
Re: Heart by henri matisse
The original is one of Matisse' famed cutouts, a sort of valentine.
note the vanishing point is right inside the chest, where the base of the heart actually sits. There's a lot of LOVE in this design, since I came from Indiana.
Re: Sky and Water
I love it. It pays homage to the original while still being original.
this isn't a great work of art, it's just a pop culture, propaganda image.
I seriously love this Robbie, you nailed the style and I'd totally wear it.
Very cool comp too! ^__^
Really cool concept, great design. Only thing I'm personally not fond of is the eyes of the angel, something just doesn't sit right with me in relation to the character. Still definitely a vote from me, gj sir.
Wow, your texture work and coloring is off the hook. I have no idea what that means, but whatever hook they're talking about this is definitely way, way off it.
Re: Boy With Pitcher
Inspired by the title for Edouard Manet's famous Boy With Pitcher, I give you ... Boy With Pitcher.
I hope you enjoy and vote. Comments are deeply desired.
Five colors on grass green: White, tan, beige, black, blue
Re: Winged Victory
Epic pose! And the crossed swords is a nice extra touch of symbolism.
Re: The Scream
This, pardon the pun, screams for an animated gif. Very cool.

I'm glad you sort of like the design! Believe me, this wasn't a Photoshop quickie. If you compare this design to the original, you'll see the vast majority of it is new, original linework- only the mountain and one wave (not the great one!) were copied (not pasted, but hand copied in the traditional sense) from the original. It was actually difficult to organically end the image and to use only 3 colors for the whole thing, etc.
Also, I really don't think the hand placement is an issue- do you think it would look like it was copping a feel or something?
I hope I don't sound too defensive here, but I'm proud of the way this design turned out and I'd hate for you to think this was a Photochop job!
Re: Napoleon Crossing (on a) St Bernard
This is beautiful work! The shading and color are awesome. Also, heck yes..awesome image. +1!
Re: Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose
Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose - by one of my favorite painters, John Singer Sargent.
And then ironically you get eaten by a yellow giant while wearing this shirt. :p
Lovely concentric form, art101!
Re: The Discovery of fire
Wow. Is this all digital or did you use actual paints in making this at all?
So much energy. :^)
Ive been waiting for this. Awesome.
Sorry. Replied to a post rather than the design.
I personally love this. The Wave is one of my favorites and I think this is a great representation of it. Also, speaking as a woman, I don't think I have a problem with the placement. Of course I won't really know until it prints and I put it on.
Re: The Thinker
Yes! Awesome +1.
I think it's great and I hope it doesn't get rejected.

It's a good thing the derby is "Reinterpreting Famous Art Titles" and not "Reinterpreting Great Works of Art," then. I'm betting you call Norman Rockwell an illustrator because he doesn't deserve the status of "painter."
I like it
very pretty, love the splashes of color and the line drawings are great. im also a fan of john singer sargent! hopefully ill get mine done tonight! good luck and gmv!
I foresee some dictionary quoting this derby. I personally will not go on a rampage to defend or attack anyone's submission -- and ultimately it will be up to the woot staffers, I imagine.
That said, I think it reasonable to consider this a famous work of art -- which is the requirements of the derby, rather than "great" -- if only because it has endured for so long and been parodied / imitated in several ways.
Thanks for looking, at the very least =)
rglee129 wrote:Like that fancy museum tag says, this is 3 colors on baby blue. I really like the way this design fits on the shirt- I hope you do, too. And that you vote for it.
This is so awesome. The hand should not be a problem at all. I'm a lady, and I don't forsee it being an issue.
SO glad you didnt sub this for kawaii. The face was hilarious, imo... but this is much better, much more artsy. Beautiful job. I have this poster in my room =) I'd love to have the shirt!
Re: The Burning Giraffe
Don't be scared honey, he's a herbivoooAARRRGHHH!!!

Re: Tommervik's Robin
Well I had no Idea what I was going to do, but then I I found this
and I thought hmmmm......what would it be like if Tommervick and Van Gogh ever met each other. This is what it would look like.
Neat design, I guess I just can't look at it and think waterfall...
i am a fan of Escher's work, and yeah, this is amazing.
good job with this...gl in the derby!
Awesome color choices and really nice illustration! I like the idea too!
I love the drawing but the shape of the head is driving me nuts.
Good design, well drawn. I'm having trouble figuring out how this is a reinterpretation of the original, or even a play on the title, though.
