I really like how you did the rain. Looks a lot like a crayon. Gives a nice feeling to the design.

Re: singing in the rain

ooo This came out really clean. I think it could use some shading and highlights though. Its seems like you have a good color palette to do it with too.

Still superb! Good job!

All the sweet, green icing flowing down...
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again

Re: Sidewalk Surfin

I love the contrast between the realism of the curb, and the cartoony-ness of the rat. But I detect a certain lack of attention to detail? I dunno, the line work doesn't seem like you - less finished, somehow. It doesn't have the sharpness of Shredsquatch, y'know?

loveengrey wrote:Great artwork as always, and a really good concept, but I wish there was a little more to show that the rat's actually surfing in the gutter. Kinda hard to tell.

I had more of the curb drawn in the initial sketch, but it really felt like it was distracting from the image of the rat. Ultimately I felt that it was better to just suggest the curb, because in my opinion, the image of a rat surfing should be able to stand on it's own.

Shredsquatch was supposed to be more "in your face" and I approached it like I would a piece of graffiti. My main intent there was to only use techniques that I could actually reproduce with spray paint cans on a wall.

With this one I wanted it to be more like the surf art I grew up seeing in the late 70's/ early 80's. Especially the stuff produced by the local surf/skate shops where i grew up. A little looser in the line work and the coloring. With my coloring I usually try for sharper airbrushed graffiti "cuts". With this one the coloring is sort of soft "blobby" airbrushing.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but it was a fun piece to produce.

That line grossed me out back in the day, when Richard Harris did it. Or was that just his singing? Great actor, tho, RIP.

tdallinger wrote:The design is a digital vector illustration of a photograph. If that is copyright violation, I am sure the folks at Woot will disqualify it.

The point is that most likely you do not have the rights to that photograph. So unless you alter it so that it can be recognized as a parody, woot will not use it. This was in the Terms and Conditions that you agreed to when you submitted your entry.

Woot gets into legal trouble if they print work that belongs to someone else. Therefore entries like this are normally rejected.

If you DO have the rights to the photo, all the comments above are moot, but you better have proof.

I like this idea but there isn't enough "info" to let you know that those white drops are rain. I would like this better with a reflective puddle under the cloud

A slug with a mustache?!? My life is complete now! Also, are the drips (off the lady-slug) in the 3rd frame suggesting what I think it is or am I just quick to go to the gutter?

It took me a second to realize we are on the inside looking out, but then I noticed the rain... Which would have made sense anyway, what with this being the rain derby and all.... OK now I'm just rambling.

I am a fan. GMV
