A reminder to not use special characters in your derby titles. It causes the quote code to truncate prematurely.

Re: Sabertooth Can Haz Cheezburger?

@JesseBYAH - thanks very much!

@Andy47240 - nice that you find this one impressive, thanks!

@jmmbell1987 - glad you like the colors and textures. I do understand your point ... I generally don't reference things at all, but I was a bit low on ideas this derby and this one amused me the most - add in the fact that I love cats and had sabertooth suggestions recently... it just seemed to fit perfectly with a bit of a twist plus the bonus of capturing that goofy expression with goofy long teeth. I knew some people wouldn't really care for it... I appreciate you expressing your opinion so nicely and stating that you've admired my past work (and hopefully will again in the future!).

@paigeg - Thanks very much Paigeg! Great to have a dance, and a ten!

Vote!

I feel like 2/3rds of Ramyb shirts are cutesy animals who are actually "evil" and are trying to eat/destroy something or another. It just feels predictable and lazy to me. Try some new ideas; mix it up a little bit! You are a good artist, Ramy (although I am sure many disagree), but your ideas are so repetitive that I am instantly turned off of your tees once I see them.

Oddly, I agree that RamyB and 'she who must not be named' are decent artists. But they don't focus on it and use it. Really a damned shame to someone like myself who is marginally talented and would give my left (whatever) to create something someone would wear. They've done it. I haven't They've apparently abused the priviledge. I wish I had the chance not to!

Look in the derby thread at the post just above yours. I had some thoughts for the artist, and they responded.
Basically, Indiana Jones sees the transition between art depicting killing things and art about worshipping Cthulu. I think.

Actually, it can be interpreted multiple ways. You either have the transition, or you have those who have chosen to worship Cthulhu, and those who decided to run their a$$es off.

Re: Fearsome Predator

Haven't seen this before. This is even more pathetic than most of your rehashes because it's gotten worse by orders of magnitude. It doesn't even remotely resemble a squirrel now, but at least we know it probably wasn't stolen.....maybe.

edit:

But at least woot already did the right thing and rejected your pathetic attempt at a Calvin and Hobbes shirt. The irony of you doing anything Calvin and Hobbes was probably too much for them to bear.

Re: His Artistic Vision Leads To The Very First Crocs

Nice! A cool idea. There's something wonky about the right arm, and the color change between the front and back of the dude's fur suit - too much contrast. I trust me - I get it. I use PS most of the time, and the Pantones are screwed. Love the look and the texture, tho.

For some reason, your thumbnail isn't showing up properly. Might be an IE thing - haven't looked in Firefox. But it's still an issue if folks can't see your thumbnail. They might just pass on by.

Because woot already printed a shirt kinda like this. I was worried about this design in the pre-derby thread, but it seems all I do on that thread any more is say what's too much like what, so I kept my mouth shut this time.

Re: The Art Keeper

OK. I don't take it back, but I've been studying this. I think the more important change would be to decrease the contrast/smooth the transition between the floor and wall.
Just my .02, but I think that's what bugs me about this, aside from the wonderfulness of the sabretooth.

That really bothers me too! But I couldn't decide if I could find the right color in pantone! I don't have photoshop so it was all hand done textureing in sai, maybe i should of included more scratchy lines to fade it. Thanks your crit is something ill remember :D

Shameless.

It's not only still obvious you're trying to make the characters calvin and hobbes to anyone who saw your deleted original, but it's more obvious that you only care about skirting the rules and making money, as evidenced by you even revisiting the idea.

paigeg wrote:Your attention to detail is wonderful, commendable. I LOVE the way you shaded/highlighted the sabretooth, AND gave it a stubby tail. Nice!
I don't see a reason the sabretooth is guarding the art, but I'm not sure I care.
My only serious reservation is that the transition between the scene and the shirt color is still too abrubt. I see you tried to fade them in, but especially in the upper 2 thirds - the lighter color - it still needs some more work to ease it in.

oh and hes not guarding the art. that was a last minute "Oragutan Mating Guide I NEED A TITLE."

wallacenorth, for some reason the thumbnail in your signature is linking to an entry you did way back in derby #44 Summer, titled "Summer is no fun for hotdogs".
Might want to update it to your current submission, cause I know it sure as heck confused me.

That happens sometimes if people are quickly moving in and out of the fog. For instance, if 9th, 10, and 11th place all have 77 votes, the system goes AAHHHHH!!! and freaks out. It'll equalize once the votes get further away from each other.

And THANK YOU everyone for the otterific comments!!! Ya'll have seriously made my day!! :D
