As I mentioned in the pre-derby thread, your texturing on the stone is spectacular. Very solid.

Nice style Boots. It looks like a cave painting, but you could also probably use that style in designs with nothing to do with that. GMV.

Re: iRock

Chemical analysis of this slab of granite depicting the fertility goddess Kokopelli Has revealed a shocking sign - that in fact, she is rocking out to an iPod. Many have taken this painting, nicknamed the "iRock", as a prophesy that shows the recent rise in the use of Apple products as a sign of the end of all things (iPocolypse).

In a way, it's nice to see the Rejectionator back and at it today.
Although, there's a few more submissions that appear to have been overlooked by the stamp so far.

I LOVE this concept but the weird crumbled parchment texture ruins it for me. It's just too bright. It overwhelms the image.

It's making me a bit squeamish. But, really good looking art.

How is this not rejected yet?

And really, why is anyone voting for it?

No. Yes.

Re: Prehistoric Duo

As others have already stated, Bill Watterson is an artist renowned for being extremely protective of his work. Matters of disrespect and a lack of integrity aside, should Woot actually allow this to print, I'd bet dollars to donuts they'll wind up with a very expensive lawsuit on their hands. Perhaps they no longer care? Amazon has deep pockets, after all ...

Yeah the first thing that came into mind was the Calvin Pissing on things stickers too.

It's finally happened... I'm actually on Adder's side about something. Everyone who knows and loves that comic strip knows Watterson's view on his work being exploited as Adder posted above.

TGentry makes a good point about "Parody is fine and if this had something to say about the original work I think I'd be ok with it, but it just seems like it's relying on the popularity of the source without saying much about it or adding enough of an original element to justify it."

I've seen a shirt done well in parody of a realistically drawn tiger sleeping with a stuffed doll of a blonde boy wearing a red shirt. a clear homage to watterson's work. it kept the spirit of the memory of the comic without lifting the style. This design does seem to be more of a "For the fans" design... but any real fan should not be willing to give credit for Watterson's work to Ramy.

I know people aren't surprised that Ramy would do a design like this. I know people use pop culture to get more of an advantage in the voting pool (hell I was guilty of trying to get by on a LOST design) but when you KNOW Watterson does not stand for this kind of use of his intellectual property, it really is just disrespectful to him. If you DON'T know this was his stand, then you're not a fan, and you have no business parodying his work to win first place.

It is unfortunate that I used to try and give your entries the benefit of a doubt, but I have to side with the others on this one.

Srsly? I'm pretty sure you coulda gotten away with a saber-toothed bunny... but then I wouldn't be forced to proceed with viewing all future entries with caution. Thanks for that I guess.

Sorry - no parody here. This should have been rejected already. Why don't you just do the right thing - take it down and enter something else? I can't believe you have no other ideas and it's still so early in the derby...

Re: MONSTER HUNTER

For 4 days and nights the monster rained fire down on our huts and children. Then some guy we all thought was a complete inattentive armadillo decided to stop things with his SPEAR.

This design came from some last minute inspiration I had this morning. The theme had me stumped, but I finally thought of something to get the pen moving. Thank you as always evreyone.

Re: Honey look, I made a statue of you...

Glrugg was so inspired by his cave lady's beauty, he was moved to artistic expression. With a blunt rock chisel, he rendered her in all her glory. He was so proud of his achievement...
Six colors on brown, with extra sexy.
/edit to add... The Venus of Willendorf has been an image that has intriged me for decades. There's no way I could resist juxtaposing it with a more modern female ideal, and trading on that pun. But I'm also cognizant we seem to be cycling back to a more voluptuous ideal for our women. I'm not commenting, though I could. I just find it terribly interesting, with or without social commentary.
