Are you serious? That's just what the Kool-Aid man does. He crashes through walls (usually brick.) Hardly anything is "taken from Family Guy," mostly because all that show does is reference other things.

It's ironic that the water cooler is on the floor. Now everyone will have to gather around a giant pitcher of coffee for the afternoon chat with the coworkers. That might be a teeny bit awkward considering THIS THING TALKS.

Shirt color would have been better on brown. That way when your wearing this shirt at the office coffee pot and Coffee Man comes bursting through the wall you don't have to worry about the coffee stains on your shirt.

I would groan loudly if my waitress wore one of these, although ironically it has GREAT taste! By the way, I'm old school 'nuff to remember the Kool Aid commercials and crashing through the wall.

BabyBear wrote:Coffee Man comes to Riverdale! Maybe it's just me, but all the character look straight out of an Archie comic.

There's a reason for that. I saw this and started having flashbacks to my childhood, reading my mom's comic books, including Kool-Aid Man comics made (for awhile) by the Archie crew.

In fact, I'm about 95% sure that this design was taken directly out of one of the comics (the hair on the lady at the far right is ringing all kinds of bells). Unfortunately, the comic is a couple of states away (and no way of getting a scan in less than 15 hours or so), so I can't prove it. But I'm pretty confident in calling this a trace-job. (If not, they've done a darn good job of imitating the style)

I love a good Kool-Aid Man spoof (even though the coffee's color looks scary), but basing your entire design off of a trace is just wrong...

Are you saying that's Shawn then? I'm still not sure what the baby pitcher's name is, but I've narrowed down the names to just two: Either Eli or Leo. I think that it's Eli though...

If you guys are seeing Dilton from the Archie comics, than I'm definetly seeing Fred from Scooby Doo there in the lower left corner. Only I'm pretty sure he's traded his ascott for a mustache.

This is tremendous and a great idea, but I am not a fan of its overall shape on the shirt. It uses the negative space well on the left side, but the right side is boxy and cut out.

Once my dad was working on a old Kool-Aid commercial from the 80's where the Kool-Aid Man was supposed to bust through a styrofoam wall. The first shot he tripped and fell on his face. They spent the rest of the day watching it in slow motion, and every time they could have sworn it looked like the Kool-Aid would come spilling out.

Now, imagine that with coffee.

I think a lot of people got it. "TPS reports" is a pretty obvious reference to anyone who's seen the movie, which is probably a lot of Wooters.

Incidentally, I wasn't quite right about this being an Archie comic. It was technically a Marvel comic, but it was done by Dan DeCarlo, who created Archie's "house style."

Generally my instinct is to defend someone who is well known for taking a vintage comic style. That would, in general, be reason enough to think the characters looked familiar... it's stylistically on point.

However, that image is pretty unmistakably this image. And when your bag is vintage comic style, that is a pretty horrible thing to have called into question and successfully proven.

Yep, definetly seeing the mustachioed Fred look-a-like in the corner on both prints. Umm...how long before they pull this, or are the pictures so old that the copying aspect doesn't come in to play enough? (I'm mean as far as being illegal and all. As far as being wrong, that it is.)

Technically kool-aid man is the most changed character. He even has the cup measure lines from a mister coffee pot (and that are pretty standard across brands).
Looking at Token I do see some differences that may mean it's not a direct trace, but I don't know that making kool-aid mister coffee is enough of a change up to be that close to the original.

So while we wait in suspense to see if this gets pulled, let's see if we can fill out the "shirt.woot Hall of Shame: The Traced Design Collection". I'm only counting shirts that made it to the front page, not derby entries that got snitched on before printing:

One Cheer For Broccoli
X-Ray Fiesta aka Pinata
Dirty Job aka the Reaper shirt
Apesplosion
And of course, now, Coffee Man

Did I miss any?

And out of curiosity, what happens if a shirt gets pulled? I know that with "Dirty Job" they gave a refund and a random shirt, but do they still do that? Does a snitch like me get a free shirt, or do I have to order one of these and take the risk? ;-)

I would if I knew how. But since I wanted to be asleep two hours ago, I'm going to wait until the morning to see how this hashes out. If anybody does know how to blow the whistle, tell them that eco2geek and gossamerica sent you. ;-)

And now I can say that all of those countless hours reading crappy comics weren't in vain.

Not to mention Mr. Mustache's hands and fingers -- and his horrible posture that looks really weird without the desk to lean on. Poor guy's about to be killed by some debris anyway.

Now I'm wondering where the funny-looking water bottle and the bedroom (?) next door came from.

And I'm wondering what shape that room is supposed to be (not a 90 degree corner), and how it was organized pre-crash (those papers were piled up in the middle of nowhere). And why the debris has motion lines coming from _behind_ Coffee Man. And how the water bottle got tipped over in that direction. (laws of physics, anyone?).

Even in the parts that might (emphasis on might) be original art were poorly done.
