You did a good job on this, shame you can't have text this week.

I think what seems a bit off is the layout of sorts. I wonder if the figure was closer to the viewer and the floating home was back smaller it would even it out. Right now it seems a bit disjointed with him floating below it. I still dig the design I just wonder if that would help it.

Eh, its kind of the layout in general. It is unorthodox which usually turns people away here; they seem to what nothing new or unusual in the layout (for the most part). However, I am not going to let the stop me from having fun and doing what I want to do. Personally, I have no doubts that this would work well on a shirt, but many would probably have to see it to believe it.

Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. I did want to make him more in the foreground, but that would mean that he would be looking off into the distance to establish the connection with him and the house. I didn't want to show just the back of his head; I wanted that pouty, sad face to be visible... if that make sense.

Good one! Good thing the rule wasn't "no packing peanuts" or they might have rejected this!

I'm down for at least 1, hopefully it wins. And i think it looks great without the text, anyone who knows the movie should get the reference. Awesome design!

Yeah, you're right. Those who know will appreciate the subtlety, those who don't will just be confused anyway...

You mean, the first image result for "Bear Igloo"? Because if you're surprised that your search for "Bear igloo" came up with a bear igloo, I have no idea how to help you.

@sefjwm, hmmm. I always search for shirts to make sure an idea hasn't been done before, and avoid the 'similar shirts exist' red stamp of death. I certainly don't look through cartoon stock galleries. :-/

I don't know if that painted bear drawing would be an issue for Woot or not. I hope not as I thought I'd found a rare original idea here, and my execution is different.

Stylistically, it reminds me quite a lot of Parrotworks' "People on the Bus."

This is adorable. I kind of wish there were little baby turtles beside it though in their own little shell-houses, or something to that effect, because it seems kind of empty. Still, its ridiculously adorable and I'll definitely be getting it if it wins.

I think the problem with the layout is that it's confusing what the focal point is. When I look at it, my eye is drawn to the house because it's bigger and closer to top-center. Then when I look at the boy, I get confused because looking at how big he is, he's obviously closer to me than the house (because of his size in relation to the house), which makes me want to be drawn to him as the focal point. I think just making him smaller would fix it. Other than that, great design. It turned out really well. I wouldn't have even brought up the focal-point thing if the layout wasn't already being discussed.

endangeredomega wrote:I hope this will be taken as it's intended (constructive criticism) rather than the usual "Ramyhate".

Something about the close-up on this design feels unpolished and slightly rough-around-the-edges, when compared to your usual shiny-smooth style. Is this an intentional, stylistic choice, or are there simply too many small lines making my eyes go wonky? (the pattern on the shell + the shading + the 'glow-lines' around each bulb)

I noticed that too. I actually like this one, but it seems a bit rushed. Most of his work has a mild wobbly feel to me; however it is extremely amplified here. The thing that bothers me the most is the snow on the top of his shell is levitating. The yellow and shirt color seem to exist underneath it. I'm not sure if that is meant to be a reflection, but it looks like a lack of polishing.

In the end, it still looks great. I do wish more time was spent rending it though.

Good point. I guess I got caught in the middle of wanting to have him in the foreground but also wanting his face visible, looking sad at the house.

I have some free time today/ tonight. I may revisit it.

Yeah I can see that, though the black images against a yellow field is far from new. His are a lot more simple and are illustrating a song though while mine are more detailed and are doing a smash up of classic holiday movie, Planes Trains & Automobiles and another classic ET which is all about going home Hope you liked it though!

I think every whale design is fated to get that comparison at this point. Look at how many people said that about "Flying".

Anyway, very nice work here, Jasneko. Simple and clean, and the white pops wonderfully off the royal blue.

Re: results for home for the holidays

Oddly enough, my home city (village) is basically a triangle shape. Aside from the farmland surrounding, the neighborhood I grew up in makes a triangle of a 2 mile circumference.

Though this map suggests more roads than my city, my house would roughly be where the fourth marker down is.

I guess you can say this really hits home. :P
