This looks great. I did not see all of the detail at first, but it is really interesting.

dsgnGrl wrote:Last week they said to do leave Illustrator gradients in for all Derbies going forward.

"If you're using Illustrator, please submit your final art with gradients"

The print-ready file is to have gradients. The "public" (as it were) is still to be presented with a halftone version, lest the shiny, gradient versions give the wrong impression about what we'd be getting.

The submission rules say halftones for photoshop, but gradients should be ok if done in illustrator. We'll see. There have been a couple other things that have been rejected for gradients, so I'm hoping mine won't be next...

Re: Curled up Fox

Just warning you this will probably be rejected for not being on the heather gray template. (it isn't a solid color so you have to download the texture from woot, its like the one weird color that way).

The printready file for illustrator can be a gradient, but the shirt comp and detail files can't be. Everybody has to be halftones there.

Well crap...better get working to get it back up...I'm 0/2 in making it to the end of the derby without getting caught by the rejectionator.

x3xleggedxninja wrote:I was just going to say... has anyone done a count on how many shirts Ramy has done with a cute rabbit (not even just cute animals in general)? The percentage has to be waaay up there. In it's own sad, pathetic way... it's kind of impressive how Ramy constantly churns out the same cutesy, artless image.

and

How many of shirts of the same damned rabbit can people stomach to own?

Looking in my closet, I see 8 Ramby shirts with bunnies on them, and on Friday it will become 9.

and finally

Forget winning derbies. I want a shirt that deserves $1,000 to win, that's what it's all about. In a heartbeat! Rehashing old designs is boring.

Ramby's designs deserve to win over 90% of the other shirts printed, and over 99.9% of the artsy junk that some people think should win.

If it would look good framed on a wall, then it has NO place on a shirt or winning a derby.
If you want art, go to a museum. If you want awesome shirts, like the ones Ramby does, go to Woot.

The simple fact is that Ramby has sold more shirts on Woot than any other 3 derby shirt creators combined, and that is counting Tjost. If you don't count Tjost, you need 5 or more designers to catch him.

You can wish and want all day long, but that is not going to change the fact that many of the voters and buyers, myself included, come to this site to see what shirt a few specific people put up, and Ramby tops most people's list.

Most of us dont care about anatomical precision, realism, or art. We want something that looks cool and would make an awesome wearable shirt. This design is one of only 3 or 4 in this derby that fits that definition.

Re: White, Fluffy... Snow?

It looks to me though like the fox is looking out of the design at the viewer, not really at the white rabbit. It seems to me you can see too much of a dead on view of the foxes face for it to be looking down.

I love your color choices though, very nicely done.

If everyone feels that strongly, maybe I could just take the two-toned thing out of the design file. Honestly, I like it both ways and I'm not married to the strip of blue. I don't want to sub another version for such a small change, on the chance I'd hog up two spots in the fog or hotness with something so similar. Does that make sense?

You can probably already buy this design on a shirt at Disney's Animal Kingdom, seeing as how that's where it's directly lifted from.

You know what's a popular beer in this country, and outsells most others?

Coors freaking Light.

There's no accounting for taste.

Any good idea Coors has ever had has just been some watered-down rendition of something better (Blue Moon vs most other wheat beers).

But for the most part, same dreck all the time. And people love it.
