The colors are great and I really like the movement implied by the pose.

Re: invention of fire (B/W)

This is a lovely illo, and a witty idea. Kudos!
White is usually the kiss of death around here, unless you're Mike/DeadFrog. He rules white tees like no other. But this has a lot of the same vibe/grayscale tone. Good luck!

Oh, my! I was going to suggest sepia-toning the linework, and adding a red/orange fire POP. You took it a bit farther. Nice! I hope we see more from you....

Who wins? The Ominous Fire-Breating Squirrel, or the Carnivorous Bunny?

Re: Bebe Burp

I agree jxchen. I really like the concept and how you've done the trees/animals, but I think the dragon is a little too un-like everything else (the shading is one of the things that makes it stand out). Everything else looks flat and clean. I think the bumps/grooves implied on the dragon's body(which were done very well) are separating it from the rest of the design. Still, it's a good piece. That dragon just bothers me somehow.

Re: Bebe Burp

There are a number of fails in this design - plaid belly? flat horns over beautifully haltoned dragon?
All-in -all, though, this is non-retchingly cute; the colors are appealing; the various elements are engaging.
I think I would wear this, sure.

Well-done, and witty.
Can't vote or wear it. I just can't. It's an American thing.

Re: Melting Defenses

Cute and well-done. I still think Chumpmagic's suggestion bears merit. Unless you add some 'hot foot' element, the flame is FAR more effective coming out toward the viewer in a loop, than under the mallow.
Really, really nice, though. If this does print, I have to buy for some camping-crazy relatives.

My insulin level just spiked. But, a friend is having twins soon... If this prints, I may have to buy the teeny kid size... twice.

Got my vote because I'm a lit nerd. This poem made it into one of my last grad school essays. Good stuff.

I like the design but I'm not wild about the dots where it looks like you wanted a gradient.

It's like they need to be finer or just removed.

This theme makes me think of Beavis and Butthead. I can't get it out of my head now. Fire! Fire! Uh huh huh huh...

Re: Foxfire

Attack or no attack, I have to agree that this isn't fire. I think it's fine to stretch the spirit of fire to a certain extent, but this is more about the spirit of kitsune or bioluminescence.

I agree with some of the assessments of the conflicting styles, but all in all I really appreciate the difference of this design to some of the other cartoon styles.

cirsh wrote:GMV, I think it'd be a successful design even without the bowl.

I think the bowl is necessary for the theme though. The bowl emphasizes the idea of a fire, since it's attempting to "put it out." At least that's how I see it. It's already kind of a stretch with it, but without it I think it would push it over to being not on theme.

Yeah, I was using the texture for the same effect as a gradient, but I liked the roughness and contrast with the smoothness of the other areas. I also thought my flames were too tight, which smooth gradients just reinforce, with not enough of the unpredictable nature of flames. Perhaps I needed either more roughness or a lot less. Thanks for the feedback!

Re: Robot vs Dragon resub

Hopefully the wing tearing and fire pop out a bit more, plus I made it a bit more of an even fight with flames coursing through a bit of the robot...

You always make such great stuff! I love your textures and the background. I wish I knew how to make the lined halftone like that.
