Re: Monkey Business

I was looking again at this design and I keep seeing little things that I like about this design. This time around I was noticing how well you did the hands themselves. Just a few dashes on the palms make it look that much more three dimensional.

Meh, as long as the rats aren't coming home with her, I don't mind. There's a limit to how many I'll let her keep though.

Thanks so much jxchen! I wasn't sure about it when I started, but I was really pleased with the way they turned out.

Excellent stretching of your color palette. The expressions on the sparrows are fun and really make the piece. I like indignant guy sparrow the best.

One minor criticism - the peacock's pose makes me think he should be leaning up against a table or something.

I'm sad that this didn't get more votes. I thought the homage was brilliantly executed. I would buy this in an instant, so if you find another venue in which to print it, please keep me posted. -:]

npromero wrote:Oh man you're the guy did the Shiva that got rejected. Im so sorry I really liked your design.

It's kinda weird waiting to see if a build gets pulled for some crazy reason (we spend a lot of time on these things). I hate it, at the same time I'm stuck reloading to see if I get more votes. There's no way this one will make it to the top, but I'm still addicted to seeing that little number rise. Ha ha ha.

Thanks again for the compliments. (my personal favorite are the calfs, they make me laugh when i look at them.)

Hey everybody,

I just wanna say great job on all the designs. There is so much talent on this site it's crazy to see all the different builds you guys are producing.

This is my first derby and even though I'm getting my ass kicked its been crazy fun to read through the comments and watch the winners climb to the top. Im pretty much glued to my computer in between work.

I had a quick question for you all though.
Is it cool to see your shirt in public? I see Woot shirts all the time where I live and I'm willing to wager that there must be certain amount of personal pride to see your work being worn on somebody's person.

Hope you all are having as much fun as I am with this thing.

Thanks everybody

Having seen that persons designs I find it so laughable that he can make such comments. I love your characters and your sense of humour.
Keep up the good work Spiritgreen!!!

Completely unfair. If you have a problem with Adder's designs, that's one thing, but to dismiss someone's opinion simply because you don't think they are a great artist is every bit as mean-spirited as you seem to think he is.

Wow, kudos my friend on an awesome illustration. Haters gonna hate, but you put together a great t-shirt.

I don't understand why people get so worked up about pop culture references on this website. It's wonderful to come up with a completely original design, but in all honesty most of the best t-shirt designs out there are references to pop culture.

All I know is I'm in for one, and I'm telling my buddies about this one.

I love this shirt design. The clouds and the cow are so cute. Maybe if the halo was removed and it didn't have the word "holy" in the title it would approved.

Makes sense. I don't think the shirt needs them, though and IMO, they retract from the shirt.

Ok I apologise for seeming mean spirited.
I do not dismiss his opinion which everyone is entitled to but i do wish he would stop being so negative against other artists who I consider create better designs than his. Having studied Art for 3 years i think i have an objective view as to what is a good design or not. That is my opinion which I am entitled to.
I just wish I could see a positive constructive critism from him.
On reflection i never actually mentioned Adder's name!!!!

Not just you. I agree 100%. I'm voting it anyway, as a nod to the awesome. To buy, though, I'd like the design a bit smaller (but maybe to the side instead of centered).

Mavyn wrote:In terms of generic advice...most artists try to avoid large areas of ink. It tends to make the fabric stiff, and reduces the appeal of the design. I also prefer designs that really take advantage of the color of the tee, either in setting the mood, or in supporting the design (for example, if this were on light blue, with dark blue to make the contrast and make the rain).

Think about the audience too--tee art is not always something that's going to look good on a wall. It's something that's going to be on a body, so won't have a flat display. That's important in terms of placement of the design. Personal preference--side prints make me feel off balance. Long prints tend to be hidden by the curves of lady lumps. A design that has levels--ie, a quick glance should be enough to 'get' the shirt, while a longer look reveals interesting details.

Thank You so much for your input Mayvn, you've given me some very good points to ponder and take into account for when I make my next attempt derby entry.

Cheers!

Re: Charming!

I like this shirt because it seems the least "forced" by the theme. That is, I could see this shirt being sold as a daily, with no theme to back it up.
