Thanks! I'm really enjoying drawing straight into photoshop. Is faster and I love this doodle style

Thanks. I got this done, then spent about 2 hours tweaking just the colors, till I found a balance that I thought worked well.

I almost couldn't tell this was Ramy's from the thumbnail because of the detail on the headphones, but the penguins was a definite tip off. All in all, I'd still say it is one of his better efforts in recent memory.

Love the art. Again you two collaborate on a great design. But,I feel I have to mention that the subject matter is starting to be overdone, not as much as cutesy penguins...

You have my vote, but a really small one.

I love how you chose to keep the design looking like a series of sketches. It turned out very well, and gmv.

It's hard to believe this shirt is within the color limits. I'd like it more if it had less colors in it though.

I thought it was the movie "robots"... I may be wrong, but the claim was robots is pop-culture. Maybe they just meant robots in general. Now i am confused.

Nice work man. I am digging the raw feel to this.

This doesn't feel like your normal work. If it wasn't for the pre-derby, I would have never known till I saw your name.

The tragic thing to me, is that outside of Walmazan, Lucky probably has the best mix of things that the "we want art" crowd and the "we want something cute" crowd both claim to want. The art is well done in a personal style with great color treatment, and they manage to always be cute, funny and sometimes with an original pop culture reference.yet, he's not winning every other week.

Here is one of those shirts that you'll never get bored of. It has so much going on that you'll always find something new and smile.

That's right, this shirt explains scientifically how cassette tapes worked. I know, I too feel bad for the unemployed miniature elves. But hey, most of them now work in the MP3 industry...

Hope you enjoy it :D

lilaviel wrote:I'm sorry you guys have such problems with Ramy. I love his shirts. Yeah, he reuses a lot of his designs/themes. But it's a brand. People like brands. There's not ONE person who commented on this thread who isn't loyal to one brand or another, whether intentional or not. So you're just as bad as the people you slam for voting for and buying Ramy's shirts. Just a thought.

Some brands garner popularity because of their willingness to bring something new to the table. Some garner popularity by their refusal to. I don't think anyone would care if Ramy started an actual brand. It is his frequency of ignoring themes (this design doesn't have a single outdated audio format, only a receptacle for them, which is pretty clearly not what woot wanted if you read the original thread).

The fact is, a brand is not so simple as you think. There are brands that stand for something, and exist because they care about what they are representing, not solely for making quick bucks. There are brands that rely on a pointless name and meaningless hype to shill identical, boring product. One is good and one is bad. One's fans will change the world, and one's will run it into the ground because they refuse to ever re-evaluate anything.

Yeah, when the banhammer went down on turtles, I noticed that penguins hadn't been on the list either, so I kind of saw something like this coming. I just don't know how many shirts someone can design of penguins standing around doing something. It's just not very original.

AdderXYU wrote:I don't think anyone would care if Ramy started an actual brand. It is his frequency of ignoring themes.

I think this is a very important point to make. Many of us dislike Ramy's designs, but honestly I couldn't care less if he decided to produce them himself on his own website. One would think with the number of derbies he's won he'd have the capital to start it up, and considering his number of fans I doubt he'd have problem sustaining it. The issue isn't his designs alone, it's that they're (to us) subpar entries in a derby that we'd hope would produce original, thoughtful, and interesting t-shirts, not just more bunnies/turtles/penguins.

Re: Music Roots

This is just one chump's opinion, but if the ink work (the marker brushed stuff) was darker and it was on a lighter shirt, I think this design would be far more successful. At the moment, I really like the design, but the colors and values make it seem duller than it really is... if that makes sense.
