Sadly surprise ain't the word for me. Upset? Always. But surprise is what you reserve for shock. I'm not shocked that a site that allows what they allow to print in the derbies to print in the derbies has editors who are even thinking of a quick buck on the week reserved for praising the great shirts that didn't win.
I'd also argue that "cute and clever" is not what comes out of the derby. Not in any textbook definition of the terms. Attempts at both, maybe, but rarely ever successes at either.
