Re: Calavera Mine (Día de los Muertos)

Description:
"It is, plainly and simply, my own take on a "calaca" -- the skeleton symbol used as decoration on the Day of the Dead. I've always preferred the black and white style, as opposed to the more colorful designs; I just wanted to cut loose and make something pretty. I also wanted to do something I hadn't seen before -- hence the open jaw held together by roots. There's symbolism in there somewhere."
Hurray! I'm hitting the derbies again after a massive hiatus! Work and responsibility got in the way; but now, I'm back, baby! -:D This is actually a great theme to get back on. A few months ago, I accidentally ran a Shift-Del on my entire design folder -- which included both my personal and contracted work. -:O I had started this design about week earlier, and while it was only in its infant stages, it hurt to lose it. But, for this derby, I built it back up from scratch and, oh: I heave such a heavenly sigh of contentment to see it done. Bringing it back to life was vaguely cathartic, and even a little ironic (given the subject matter). Vote if you like it! Thanks! -:]
