is it me... or do the rays seem a little off in the reflection?

It's a revolt! Mirror images demand to be different!

Is it bad if I can't tell the difference between Aztec and Mayan artistic styling?

What's sad is this is Aztec and not Mexican, but it is cool so I shall let it pass.

I thought sacrificing virgins to a volcano was in Hawaii. Didn't Aztecs yank the heart out on top of the pyramid or something like that?

I see the artist ... but where are the bunnies, penguins, or squirrels?

(But seriously, it's a nice change of pace for you, Ramy.)

Nice job! I really like the richness of the colors. I would watch a sunset like that. Guess I'll have to wait until 2012. (Yeah, yeah. Mayans, Aztecs, whatevs. I'm sure a Mayan sunpocalipse would look similar)

Even on a cloudy day, I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun...

The Aztecs lived in what is now Mexico.

Quetzalcoatl spoke of a cactus growing on an island in the middle of a lake. Perched on top of this cactus was an eagle with a snake in its mouth. This is where the Aztecs were to found their capital, Tenochtitlan. (Tenochtitlan eventually became Mexico City.)

To this shirt, I say: close enough.

First line off of a google search of "Aztec":
"The Aztec people were certain ethnic groups of central Mexico"

Oops.

Do you know what the Capital City of the Aztec's was? Tenochtitlan.

And guess what, that is what is now known as Mexico City.

My favorite part is that little cactus silhouette. Nice detail

Wow, ramby was able to break away from the 'pulp' cutesy trap he was stuck in. This is wearable quality even.

Many people are criticizing this statement, saying that the Aztecs live in Mexico.

I get it. You're right.

But I think bpeterson82 was making the more nuanced argument that the native Aztec people would not define themselves as "Mexican". Yes, it's a subtle distinction. But I wouldn't pile on bpeterson82 for making it.

Well, I'd look at it like "Native Americans"... who lived on the U.S. land before settlers came, yet we call them "Native American," even the old ones (when we weren't calling them "Indians" because someone thought they landed somewhere they didn't)... Since the Aztec people are part of the geographical and cultural history of the landmass of Mexico, I'd say it's fair to say they apply.
(The analogy may not work for other people, but it's the logic that is the main point for me.)

It may be a pretty design and all, but don't where this on an archery range or you're liable to get mistaken for a target.

That's like saying that the Celts would not have called themselves Irish, or Scotish, or French etc.... Duh. Being how time only goes in one direction and all.

However, many Mexicans certainly identify as being Aztec. And, if you didn't catch the very nice little history lesson provided by... oh wait...yourself.... take another look at the Mexican flag.

calichris

Great design! It's a beautiful piece on a uncommon color.

One other thing:

The Aztec word for "Aztec People" is Mexica. They lived in a region called Mexico. What descendants they have remaining still do. It is a Ur-Mexico shirt.

I completely agree. I looked at the shirt and was like wow this is a nice design..then I looked at the artist and my mouth literally dropped.

Keep doing designs like this Ramyb!! I love it! Great job.

The theme wasn't "Mexican", but "Mexico". And in any case, the derby description also mentions Aztec and Mayan designs as fair game.

I think I was the first one to mention that Aztecs lived in Mexico, but I wasn't "piling" on bpeterson82 - I just meant to inform. :P

Haha, I actually don't know what the Canadian jibe is here! I'm really sleepy right now... is the joke simply that I am Canadian? XP

Related: Happy Canada Day!

And it makes me smile that you remember my nationality, Jaden. :P I kind of wish I had the time to be as active here as I used to be. Looks like not much has changed.

The Aztec people actually called themselves Mexica, so this is actually a 100% Mexican-themed shirt. And a pretty darned good shirt, at that.

This is a really cool design. It looks so similar to the header designs for the website of a band (Thrice), a few years back.

Hilariously, I also remembered you were Canadian. Lots of posts about how long Smartpost took to get to Canada back in the day.

Yep, not much has changed. JK is still cracking wise and he-who-shall-not-be-named is printing over and over and over . . .

Excellent idea for Winter....but this Summer heat would be RIDICULOUS with some long sleeve action.
