As stated by others, that first half of the title just seems superfluous. As far as the tracing bit, those bottom two tentacles do seem extremely similar position-wise, but it would appear to me, unless proven otherwise, that it is coincidental.

That left "arm" is a bit distracting, with it just sort of hanging there (not to mention how jacked that arm looks.) Same sort of problem with the legs, to me at least; the right leg looks significantly larger than the other. Furthermore, that jacket looks like it is going past his legs.
On a side note, I'd be curious to know if your shirt was at all inspired by this picture:
