After some consideration, and public and private comments, I felt like it worked less well than this version. I clearly can't handle color well.

Saw this over at dA and HAD to come vote for it. If this wins the derby, I'm totally getting it.

Yeah my favorite so far too! I love how only the octopus looks evil enough to be the one committing the sacrifice.

Saving the first post to later edit in an artist's comment?

I definitely think this could be seen as offensive, especially with the slanty eyes. And I don't think any nationality wants to see themselves depicted as pigs.

Also, it looks like you used more than 6 colors here. You might want to get yourself more familiarized with the rules and templates next time around. Good luck.

Re: The Orchid Onryō

I like the texture and style. Though I wouldn't wear it (not my cuppa), I think you should resubmit with a smaller, perspective-appropriate hat. I understand distorting the perspective so you can see her face, but it's a little too noticeable at this scale. I can't be the only one bothered by this...can I?

It's not a hat, it's a sunshade !
Now wonder it looks so big compared to the head.

fairnymph wrote:I really dig your style, and this shirt would be awesome if you took out the moon, which to my eye appears stylistically different and clashes with the main design. You don't need it, either.

Thanks for constructive criticism. I will admit the moon was a last minute throw in and unfortunatly sometimes last minute throw ins look like last minute throw ins.

Okay, thanks, that makes more sense. The alignment with the head made it look like a large hat with an unrealistic tilt/hover effect going on. It wasn't the size that bothered me, it was the perspective (made more noticeable by the size).

I clearly need to bone up on my Japanese fashion accessories...

And then perhaps Woot can create separate derbies, one for known, accomplished artists and one for the lessors... so people know which shirts to ignore and not have to waste their time looking at crap entries like mine.

This is great. How do you get the antiquing effect where the lines aren't solid but show through a little to the shirt color?

I wanted to create a design that you could get lost in, like when you are staring at the constantly changing ocean.
One colour print on navy. Please look at the close-ups to get a sense of the detail.
