Don't forget "Donkey Skin" (or "Thousand Furs," or whatever of its other names you choose) - incest, a runaway princess, dresses made to be like the sun, the moon, and the stars, and in some versions, even a donkey that excretes gold!

I assume the Arabian Nights stories are considered fairy tales.

Too bad the derby announcement goes up too soon before the derby itself to allow anybody to read Andrew Lang for inspiration - 90% of the entries will cover 2% of the available fairy tales. But, I suppose they'll be the 2% that would get votes and sell, anyway.

Shrek was a children's book before that, so it should count.

I'll have the wolf outline smoky in the background, and the pigs posing Angels style in the foreground (in his mouth) with weapons associated with their homes. Currently I have a pitchfork, an axe and a hammer. I was thinking a trowel instead of the hammer, but it looked too much like the axe when I enlarged it.

What do you think?

Love it!!!

Some individualized weapons for the pigs is great. Make one an axe, and the other a pickaxe - totally different silhouettes. But I really, REALLY hope you can connect with that Fright Night look for the wolf. One of my all-time favorite goofy eighties vamp movies! EVuuullll!

YES. I never actually got around to reading more of the series, but that was a great book. I felt her pain every inch of the way.

Lol! Nice one. I thought of the Emperor, too. Like the way you looked at it. Maybe another company can do this as a belt print.

Just tossing this out there, and PLEEZE consider this just a conept - ignore the actual composition. Fairy Tail Ending. In my head, this is dark, beautiful and sexy. Pretty much everything my sketch is not. :| Feel free. I have zero time, and only slightly more skill.

Can I re-use my castle background (from this derby) if it's a different idea? Seems too nice to waste and I need a castle.
Any ruling on that? Is that considered a re-work?

Could Alice in Wonderland be considered a fairy tale? One site lists it as one, but the wiki site does not have it. It seems one the border to me.

EDIT: Blinddog, I think you should be fine for using that, it sounds like it's going to be a significant rework from what you had before.

Why on earth would it? It's a frickin' castle. The primary elements in the Four sub were the musketeers. The castle was 'atmosphere'. Go for it, I say.

But - you're BLIND!

Honestly, given time and a gazillion re-dos, I could produce a totally awesome, sexy, borderline R-rated comp from this. Too bad Woot is so PG. One hot snake-tailed fairy could sell gazillions. Or, well - maybe a few to those sad dudes with lots of money, Harleys, and no women.

I think, and can't be sure, but THINK Alice in Wonderland is considered more of a literary work. It was a long, novel-length tale, as opposed to the brevity of the typical fairy tale. The line between fairy tale and fable is more blurred, but I'm almost dead certain AiW would not qualify.

OK. I am SO not going to comment on THAT!
Yes I am. I made my 9th grade teachers CRAZY. >also 10th, 11th - by senior year they were exhausted<
You got their attention with a gnome hat? Really? Must've been a magic hat, or you are really GOOD. Bravo. I teach undergrads (used to teach grad students), and I want to kill them all. Tip o' the hat from me.

A caveat from a fellow teacher. Wikis are unreliable, and depend solely on the authenticity and veracity of the poster. I can't tell you how many times I've fragged a student for citing a wiki in a college-level paper.
Not that Woot art requires any kind of authenticity, but their Wiki might conflict with your Wiki. Just sayin'.

Totally with you on that, but the WootGods made mention of Wiki and therefore opened that door - it's probably too much to ask for a standard online reference of fairy tales?!

Blue, brown... eyes closed or open?
Any other suggestions? At first I was going to do a more contemporary hat/headgear but then I was thinking it might lose the fairytale reference.
Thanks!

I like the way you think. I could suggest a softening of the head shape, so her head isn't so square. And bring those glowy blue eyes back. I liked that so much more than the realistic eyes. Far more ethereal vibe.

Not done THAT way. It's been done, endlessly, but that wouldn't have been my first worry! If you got a concept, go. Some integral concepts work, as long as they're done well enough or quirky enough to capture the heart. Do NOT compare your work to any other artist. Fear is the mind killer.
