"This week we want to see your version of the classic fables of your youth."

I would think this line could be the clue that fables would be on topic.

Well, at least a good argument for why they should be.

edit: nevermind... this has been ruled on.

Nothing follows.

tgentry wrote:We'll do a fable derby some other time. I'm sure there's some blurring of the line where fables and fairy tales meet up. For instance, ugly duckling is actually a fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson. Fairy tales generally have some kind of fantastic element to them while a fable might not. Tortoise and the Hare is right out. For god sakes no one do a rabbit racing a turtle shirt for a fairy tale derby.

So yeah, stay on the Fairy Tale side of things. If you think your idea might be a fable, ask around, do some research, post your defense along with the shirt. Still might get rejected 'cause we don't think it's a fairy tale, so be prepared for that too.

Interesting, I've always heard Ugly Duckling referred to as a fable by Mr. Anderson, however as this is a shirt site and not an English Major site, I'll leave that debate for another forum. (Not saying that I totally disagree with Ugly Duckling as a fairy tale, just I like an old school fairy tale and fable discussion.)

Hence the occasionally blurry line. Wikipedia lists it as a fairy tale, and that's probably where we'll go first (but perhaps not last) if we have doubts or questions.

Also we dropped all references to "fable" in the write-up. No fables unless it also could be considered a fairy tale. No tortoise and the hare and what not.

Yes, it works without the text "Intervention." Pretty funny, too!
Maybe have Peter working the door with his musket?

Love the top one. Maybe lose the text and try a Psi (uppercase Ψ)? Maybe the hint of a framed degree on the wall?

I'm going to say that I actually like the inclusion of the word "Intervention" in the Big Bad Wolf design, I think that on a quick glance some people won't get the gag without it. However, I know that it might be overkill for some.

Also, I like the idea of putting a degree on the wall like some one else mentioned.

I dunno if the sketch will be clear enough to make out, but the concept I'm going with is kind of a Fright-Night-(the original)-meets-Charlie's-Angels-(the originals)-movie-poster version of the three little pigs.

I'll have the wolf outline smoky in the background, and the pigs posing Angels style in the foreground (in his mouth) with weapons associated with their homes. Currently I have a pitchfork, an axe and a hammer. I was thinking a trowel instead of the hammer, but it looked too much like the axe when I enlarged it.

What do you think?

Wow, I was thinking, I'll do a big bad wolf/three pigs thing. That seems to be covered. I'll keep brainstorming.

Oh My Gourd....despite the high quality of the various big bad wolf designs, can we please not do any more Red Riding hoods for a while?
It seems played out by now.

I've seen your shirt designs and I've seen mine. I'm pretty sure you shouldn't consider me doing the pigs as being "covered." :D

I pull your designs up and look back and forth to try and figure out why mine don't quite pop. ;)

that looks great! I think you can make any of the weapons work, but a hammer would be a good contrast to the other items. It is a good opportunity to add a lot of little details to the pigs that will give them individual character.

So I'm mucking about and thought I'd share what I've got.
I have no idea what color shirt this will be on (I know I should have done that first), and am baffled by the challenge of turning it into only six colors and halftone but.... whatever.

It's the seven ravens

EDIT: also there will be clothes on that poor lady, promise

This is a fairy tale right? not a fable?

Not totally sure it works without the text; it may not be clear. What if there was a more subtle way of saying it, like a pamphlet on the table that says, "Interventions for Wolves"? I think the idea is really clever.
