this isn't getting printed, but be not weary... you can make a prototype like i did, and wear it proudly:

Re: ...I don't wanna

I like this! In fact I would buy one of just the unhappy kitty in the middle - it's the best part!

The only negative thing I would say is that since it is so well drawn, the tears on momma kitty don't really look right. Everything else is drawn realistically, and the cartoony tears (also since they're gray) don't look like tears. I actually thought they were stripes when I first looked.

But that's just a minor thing that I noticed - other than that it's really great!

Concept? You expect too much from me! It's just pretty. My original concept was to do No 2 pencils drawing CMYK colors. The concept there was giving up traditional artistic methods in favor of the digital media, but... I used the extra colors on the pencils instead of the lead. Because the design ended up being prettier that way.

As for the ampersands, I couldn't streamline the equations w/o them seeming to run together w/o the "&". The exclamation points come more from the script of the movie and the excitement at burning the "witch"...

Yeah, it's unlikely this shirt will win now... but I'd love to see this design make a comeback (I also concur that cranberry isn't quite right). But it's hilarious, and definitely wearable without the chalkboard. We need to get this printed at some point.

There are plenty of "serious" shirts out there. And then, there's woot. Foods horrified that their own is being eaten? Penguins piloting a giant robot? Carnivorous bunnies? Ninjas on fire? Yeah, I'll take the obscure, silly, nonsensical, whimsical, and even the artistic here instead, TYVM.

I second the motion. I figure folks who've been around Woot long enough to figure out the Woot style, don't like that style, but still hang out to write lots of negative posts just need an outlet for their general crabbiness.

Its a cell [organelles like mitochondria make that obvious] doing American-style long division - cell division. It's a nerd shirt for sure and won't make sense if you don't remember your parts of the cell lesson from 9th grade Bio and long division from 3rd or 4th grade [can't even remember when we started to do long division].

I love that the design is in three panes. The only thing I noticed is that, in the paper pane, there is no rock to practice with.

They all have a head shape like the one on the sign (which I don't count since it is a picture on a sign!).

I always love patrickspens' work!

What better place to hide than on the sign? No one would ever suspect the ninja on the sign is really a ninja...

Thanks man.
I can't believe I have pulled only 8 votes with this one.

By looking at the other entries that have done well, perhaps I should have had a ninja waiting at the bus stop if I wanted to break into the double digits.

I agree the middle cat is the best part, the thumbnail is what drew me in, but the other cats distract the attention from the middle, the whole message is great but it works just as well with just the gray guy there

chrismiss76 wrote:Thank you kindly! I don't get it- the guidelines state that an illustrator file can have gradients, no halftones needed. But then they state that halftones must be shown in the detail. Any help?

Yeah, their submission policy for illustrator files is annoying. You need to halftone the gradients in the 240 and 580 images, but leave them as gradients in the source file. You can halftone in illustrator by converting gradient to grayscale and expanding appearance. Then go to the effect menu-> pixelate ->color halftone. Then do live trace on the halftones telling it to ignore white. Expand object and fill it with the color you want.

It's a lot of extra work that won't actually be used for printing, so you are probably better off just rasterizing the image in photoshop and completing the halftoning there. Gives you the opportunity to control how halftones will look in the final product instead of relying on whatever method woot uses.

I like the idea though.

Do available woot t-shirt colors change periodically? I didn't see that bright orange that was used on the portal cake shirt on the template.

If you let the pencil disappear (which I think makes the shirt too busy anyway), you can easily get away with six colors: black, white, skin-color, +3 others.

Replace the "Mrs OMGOMGOMGPONIESOMG" with a heart on the chalkboard and the maybe-non-incidental text is gone as well.

yellowflower wrote:Sometimes that's the best part. I got this one, and when I wear it, I always get someone looking quizzically at it. When I say, "It's a soap opera." They always laugh and say something like, "Oh, that's cute!" or, "Oh, that's clever!" or, occasionally, "Oh, I can't believe I didn't figure that out!" I like it. It's fun. I think the Cell Division one would provoke the same kind of interaction.

I get people asking me about the 5 second rule shirt. I thought that was fairly obvious, but someone is going to ask about anything.

I'd get this and my biologist friends should get it fairly easily, or feel silly when I explain it to them.

He's persecuted by the vocal posting community, and apparently adored by the shirt-buying community. He's the underdog in the first community (as far as I see on the derby threads), the champion of the second.
