Back to the original sketch for puppy dog eyes - bigger eyes, tilted head, etc... thoughts? Is this better?

Or would it be better to have the puppy asking for something? (a bone, a treat, etc?)
More like this (roughly done):

And I haven't decided on the dog dreams color yet, so if you have an opinion, please feel free to give it

The head tilt is great. But, did he break a plate? A chewed-up slipper or something would work better, IMHO. I do like the 'asking' idea too, though. My only thought on color is not gray. Any gray. That's a personal thing with me, tho - WAY too many gray woots shirts in my closet!

The expression on the dog looks like he's really got to go. What if was raining in the background outside? Do you think that would add a little more to the story here?

Umm, it's great, but I doubt the little dog tinkling in the corner will pass the rejectionator. Since this isn't Star Trek: Next Generation, I don't think that Number One will be allowed.

colors are not pantone. I don't know if this style is right for this project. I might try a few more different executions.

I would have thought simply a lead at the dogs feet would speak volumes. Just my two cents. I mean the dog is so well drawn, that nothing too extravagant is needed, and everyone knows that look!

I'm a little confused because people were commenting from two different places, but I think from what I'm seeing, it's down to these three: brown, navy blue, royal blue. So of these, go ahead and give your preference if you like it - thanks!

I like the brown and the navy blue the best, but I'm not terribly choosy about shirt color. The color of the shirt never really keeps me from buying something, unless it's white, because then I inevitably get something messy on it within ten minutes of wearing it. I really love this design, and I don't generally like to nitpick, but I have to say... the way the squirrel tail and the mailman keep changing color to match the shirt is a total dealbreaker for me. Those two things just stand out so much from the other two... I think it's adorable, but that little detail would honestly keep me from buying it.

I suggested things other than the lead because of Skek's sub. Any one of a dozen simple things would work.

Very funny, well done!

One of (many) ideas I had was not too dissimilar to this, except involving uniquely shaped air fresheners!

Edit: Maybe if this ain't rejected I might give it a go.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, I really appreciate it!

@yellowflower - thanks for the thoughts. I know it looks weird seeing the colors change each shirt color, but if you saw it as a whole do you think it would look as weird? I do agree a blue squirrel tail is weird (I would actually color it black I thought, in those cases), but independently, is it that odd looking?

Edit: Update on Puppy Dog Eyes. Better?

Vote!

Do you think? That little detail is pretty innocuous and it ties to the idea behind the design.

Getting in a bit late, but here are a couple ideas I'm working on:

1: Mr. Peabody & Sherman as Dr. Brown & Marty McFly...Maybe call it "Wayback to the Future" or something.

2: Dog with a slingshot aimed at a squirrel in a tree but the squirrel has a bazooka/RPG aimed back down at him.

Thoughts?

I personally agree it's pretty tiny and inconsequential to the overall design. Of course the problem is when someone gets rejected for a shirt with a giant dog poop on it, they will throw a fit and point to your shirt as an example of "bias" and "double-standard". We realize that the derby exists in many shades of gray and lines are vague and unknowable, but many in our audience see things in only black and white and this is the kind of "on the fence" thing that sets people going for days on end.

This isn't a yes or no -- we don't do that. As always, decide on your own and be prepared to live with whatever decision is made.

I don't think it's so much the way they keep changing that looks weird to me, it's that the two on the right (the squirrel and the mailman) have a significant color difference than the two on the left. Maybe if they alternated, so it was -bunny, squirrel, cat, mailman,- or -squirrel, bunny, cat, mailman,- it wouldn't look so off to me. Or maybe if there was some of the darker color somewhere in the bunny and cat. On the brown one I didn't notice it quite as much, but in the other colors it was really obvious and very... I guess asymmetrical is the word. Otherwise, though, I absolutely love it.

And I love Puppy Dog Eyes, too.

I think you should choose a color for the shirt and then mess with the colors of the image to match.

Maybe this is TMI but I have a tetrad color scheme of red green yellow blue in the comp I posted. So maybe if you figure out your color scheme that will help. Most artist do this intuitively but when you hit a brick wall it is good to know a little color theory.

So many great shirts. I have a feeling I'm going to have to make room in my closet for them. Hey Woot-gods, just for this derby, do you think we could maybe possible take the top 7 and sell them all this week?

For the number of "I'd want one" I've clicked already, that ... such would be quite an expensive week for me. So please stick to the top 3, Woot!

Hadn't even thought of it once....till now.
I've definately had my share of derby related songs stick with me through the many hours working on a design. 'Blinded Me With Science' from the Science Fair Derby was a tough one to shake off.

I don't think it needs the fire hydrant in the background, from a distance the shape and color is enough. And if Woot doesn't approve of that one dog, maybe just have him lifting his leg would get by.

Looks great the way it is. It might be fun to toy around with the dog holding the tissue box maybe have him be a breed without spots and have the spots like they got on him as well as the ground.
