The main reason I find this so amusing is it says "come look at OUR book." It makes it look like the Appalachians are poking fun at themselves, rather than pointing a finger at someone and saying, "you only have one book, haha!"

This was a tough one. My first thoughts were to find humorous or unusual city names and build something from that. I wanted to do Hell, Michigan, but someone had already done a really nice old fashioned looking postcard for it.

Vulcan was a second choice, and although they have a few Star trek related attractions, I didn't notice from researching they had a giant hand statue.

I do see the globular feeling of the rounded bottom with the umbrella but I don’t think it really works to your advantage on this design. I agree that a fade-out bottom would give a more ethereal quality and reiterate the storm/rain at the top, making it more aesthetically pleasing. In other words, it would be way cooler with a jaggedy bottom 

So clever! My favorite is also the Tower of Rifle - in fact, if you worked that up by itself (maybe with iron girders around the stocks, spiral staircase around the barrels, an observation deck at the top, etc.) so that it was so obviously a pun on that other tower that you didn't even need the label, that would be amazing! Good Work!
