I think this is my best work yet...thinking of callin it "Classic Safari" for the sunset I just changed the opacity of the brush...would I get rejected for it? alright if people think this has gradients, I just said I didnt use them...but if its gonna get rejected I would like some help figuring out how to make a good sunset with no halftones since I can NOT do them...I've spent weeks just trying to figure them out and failed...its frustrating beyond anything when there's no tutorials for them...I worked really hard on this one and I would like to not get rejected so...I'm at a loss :-(

I'm probably the wrong person to advise you, but sure here goes....
When they say gradients, they mean any colour which has a gradual decrease, increase in opacity, lightness, darkness etc, over the page/design.

Here's a link to some tutorials which explain it better, and you may find useful:

http://shirt.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4532808

http://shirt.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?postid=3867870

Edit: You need to convert your opacity brush strokes to half tones. Trust me a tricky and error strewn process! (Leastways for me :o)

sorry, misread.
Opacity brushes == instarejection
The Woot silk screen printing process doesn't use translucent ink, so you shouldn't either.

I tried to figure out halftones for at least a month straight...I looked at the woot forums...none of them use the same program and the tricks they used...dont work with elements 8...there arent even any tutorials on youtube for it...I thank you for trying but...unless you know photoshop elements 8 then I have to figure out some other way to do this

Gotta be honest I'm not overly familiar with elements, somebody please CORRECT me if I'm wrong, but as far as I'm aware there's no good tool for converting to half tones in it. Maybe if you can export your pic to another program? Otherwise I'm stumped. Sorry.

I don't use Elements 8 now, but this sounds like it would work from my spotty memory:

Apply the Color Halftone filter

In the Editor, select an image, layer, or area.
Choose Pixelate > Color Halftone from the Filter menu.
Enter a value for the maximum radius of a halftone dot, from 4 to 127 pixels.
Enter a screen-angle value between ‑360 and 360 (the angle of the dot from the true horizontal) for one or more channels:
For grayscale images, enter a value in channel 1. Values in the other channel text boxes do not affect the filter.
For color images, use channels 1, 2, 3, and 4, which correspond to CMYK channels (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black).
Click Defaults to return all the screen angles to their default values, and then click OK.

k well I got the dots now (looks like crud) but i've seen it fade with others' use of halftones...there's no fading...ugh this way my "best design yet" doesnt even hold up to my low standards

Play with it--you have to start with dots, but adjust the sizes within the limits Woot indicates.

Actually, giraffes do have massive chests and from leg muscles, as well as a short back. Weird critters.

If I submitted this (cause it's kinda all about the hat for me), could I resubmit one with an animal in place of the hat? Or is that too close? I could change up the colors. Will that kinda of thing get rejected? I got a warthog for the hate haters out there, but I'm not willing to not do the hat.

I don't know how much work that will be -either way, gmv.

Good catch - I was going for the acacia tree look, but obviously failed. Still working - so far I've moved the tree trunk, re-done the sun (too fussy) and colored the car body. Then I realized I'd messed up drawing the bumper, and fixed that... Still, I'm hoping to be ready with it this evening. Thanks TONS to all for the help and advice!

Thanks for all the comments! I looked at it without the grass and it looks like "Legs dangling out of nothing," maybe green isn't the right color maybe a light dead colored grass would be better.

Here is a text question since this is only my 2nd derby. I would understand that no text is more of statement or a punchline to a joke but what if its literally a design element such as a clock has numbers or a menu would say "menu" are those grounds for rejection?

Absolutely. I got one rejected for text because it had a plus sign on it: http://shirt.woot.com/Derby/Entry.aspx?id=54976

In some derbies they will say "incidental text only"- the kind of text you're talking about would be OK in that kind of derby. This derby says NO text. That means no text, no symbols, no kanji, nuffink.
