so graphically reminiscent of Japanese art

One word comes to mind when I see this:

Sushi!

There's a lot to like on this shirt-- the splashing water is very detailed and stylistically accurate, and the coloring is spot-on.

But my favorite part of this design has to be the facial expression on that cat.

Not the first time I've seen a Koi bigger than a cat...

love the colors, especially the kimono, + the sense of movement

Ha ha ha I like the way this looks a lot. Though I wish some of the orange was on the koi too. Nya!

What is in the cat's mouth? Blowdart?

I was about to buy this... then I noticed the damn cat in the middle. Not my meme, sorry. Pass. MORE FISH THOUGH, please! :-) I would like to have some really artistic Japanese koi designs.

I see a big koi like that, and the first thing I think of is WKRP (in Cincinnati.) I mean, you get it, right? W-K-R-P, that's carp! They're noble fish!

Just in case you were wondering, like I was, this shirt is based on the story of Kintarō.

The line work and color choices here really are remeniscent of an ancient scroll to me.

The cat almost appears to be dancing or conducting an orchestra - very lyrical.

This shirt makes me absurdly happy. I hope that Mowgli, feline keeper of our abode, will let me wear it from time to time.

Wait, is this supposed to reference Kitarō, the Japanese musician?

I like the design a lot...but calling it Kittentarō doesn't sound very catchy.

Nyantarō sounds better to me.

Unfortunately the color of the cat's fur doesn't go well with the shirt's color.

Everything about this shirt makes me happy. It's even in grey! Because I totally need more grey shirts. Either way, it's nice to see a woot shirt that's more on the pretty side than the cutesy side.

And sold! I have a tattoo of Kintarō fighting the carp who ate his mom on my inner right arm. And I love cats. There's a meme there but I'm too hopped up on cold meds to figure it out,

My first woot purchase! Big fan of William Chua and this was a must have shirt. Now I'm broke, but giddy because this combines the story of Kintarō and cats!

I'm playing Okamiden right now on my DS, and Japanese art just tickles my fancy too much. I also have an Asian Art Study class this semester that I hope to wear this to.

I think my only debate was whether or not to have it shipped overnight, not whether or not to buy it. >_>
