It's a Monty Python thing. That should be the only explanation necessary.

The bottom text's a bit superfluous, no?

MP references notwithstanding, I can say that an electric herring functions much better than an electric eel when it comes to cutting down trees.

A better color would have been Elderberry.

I'm kind of hoping that "This shirt tell the world" is attributable to Monty Python. I'd hate to think woot! had gone and wasted a typo.

The (...) should be after the "with" not the "a". Just sayin'.

I bet Roger the Shrubber would really dig this shirt.

I read that when McDonald's very carefully set up the I'm Lovin' It campaign. When it first came out, they would play the whole jingle: "Bada ba ba da.... I'm lovin' it." Once the consumers were familiar with the song, McDonald's stopped playing the second half of the jingle, so that after watching (or hearing) a McDonald's commercial, the consumer was then "left hanging" to the point where they felt compelled to finish the jingle - which is, conveniently, in first person: "I'm lovin' it."

This shirt may have been a successful seller without the text... but WITH the text, it becomes an instant fellow-Monty-Pythonite-identifier. Just like Roger Rabbit was constitutionally unable to hear the "shave and a haircut" knock without responding "...two bits!", any fan encountering this shirt is going to be hard pressed not to give the distinctive call given in the title of the shirt:

Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiith..... a herring!

Aww, only a few votes separated this shirt from 4th. Damn I've been waiting a long time for any of the derby shirts to tie... argh I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Wow! I truly have to say I had given up hope. All the shirts that I was sure would come in before me hadn't printed yet so I didn't think I'd make it. Thanks to the fellow MP nerds for the love.

And sorry to Boots for leaving the dreaded 4th for her. I know that feeling too well.

Really shocked the collab shirt didn't do better -- that was a lot of fun.

At first I was thinking "What the carp..." Then I read your post and was all "Oh okay. Makes sense".

Funny, but the shirt looks stupid.

Redesign = purchase

Never wooting again. I've learned my lesson about inferior customer service and employees that illegally modify your signature (18 U.S.C. § 1029). Grow up, woot. (Edit of Mod edit: I am telling the truth about you modifying my signature to slander me. I am not attacking people. You dont qualify as "people" until you call me back and I hear a voice on the phone, then we can discuss how your employees are harassing me.) Still no response Since December 2010.

If I bought two shirts, could I wear one slightly higher so I get a 2-level effect with a little path through the middle?

Judging by the sales stats, this shirt is really popular with lumberjacks.

I'll be honest, I liked it and I didn't even get the reference (I like Monty Python, but not THAT much).

It's just such an asinine t-shirt, and I can only imagine the fun I'll have watching people try to make sense of it.

That, and I like the choice of font.

In for one!

This. I was just strangely amused by the thought of an electric herring before I was reminded I should have caught the reference. Well executed fun though.

OK fellow wooters, I need some help from the boys. I know the women's shirts run on the snug side...can you enlighten me on how true to size the men's shirts are?

I MUST get this as a gift, want to make sure it fits...

Thanks!

I'd say to go up a size if he's a typical build and you want it to fit like a normal T. Stay with his typical size if he's really slim or you want a hipster type of tighter fit. If he's particularly muscular in the chest/shoulders or big bellied, you might want to go up 2 sizes.

My husband is 5'10, average build, 180 lbs and usually wears a large. A MXL is a nice fit for him. My friend is about the same height but weighs around 210 (40 waist, I think). He wears a MXXL in Woot, although he's closing in on a MXL. My 10 y.o. can wear a MS, but it's a little long & loose on him. He's 5'0" and 86 lbs.

Hope that helps.

We are going to see Spamalot! tonight, my husband is in withdrawal and wants to play our Holy Grail DVD. It is MIA, probably stolen by our 22 y/o son as opposed to our oganization skills. Thank you shirt Woot! for just the shirt we needed today.

How does the Electric Herring stand up to the majestic moose? The description did not mention it.

I'd have to agree with that other guy. I do love Monty Python a great deal, and I have seen the Holy Grail 6 times, and that Herring bit is one of the least memorable parts of the movie. Shrubbery, Swallows, the color Blue, the Police arresting everybody at the end, eating all of the minstrels in the middle, how to properly weigh a witch, the peasant commune, dancing when we're able.... all things I immediately remember. But the Herring bit... nope.
