It's a toss up between the Sombrero or the Goofy hat. Dora meets Seuss or Disney meets Seuss. Hmmm...

I've never designed a t-shirt before, but sometimes I want to, just so I'd get an awesome artist write-up ala woot.

London Guard Hat. Definitely - it's going to be a cold winter!

Got one for my sister - a 1st grade teacher. This will work well on Read Across America Day, which is on Dr. Seuss's birthday! (Next RAA Day is Friday, March 2nd, 2012!)

Reminds me of Buster Keaton in Steamboat Bill Jr. -- anyone?

Wow. I'm a bit surprised at this one, especially since the copyright holders for Dr. Suess are pretty well-documented to go after any violations. I mean we're talking about a group of lawyers who went after Louisville a few years ago for daring to have a Grinch Who Stole Christmas theme for a holiday celebration...and all they were doing was displaying some characters!

Probably not the brightest idea, Woot. And putting

"This shirt tells the world: 'I only wear the finest unauthorized knockoff merchandise.'"

in the description is an even worse idea. The grinch lawyers aren't the type to mess around.

Is that a Robin Hood hat, or a Bartholomew Cubbins hat? Could've used a few more feathers if it's Bart's...

Nobody tried a rhyme?!
I’ll take a stab at it.

There once was a cat as plain as they come
An ordinary cat who wanted to be someone
He strode down the street about to bewail
When suddenly he saw a sign that said sale

He opened the door he didn’t think twice
A change in his look yes that would be nice
And low and behold when he entered that store
Striped hats there were many and then many more

He saw hats worn by the Russians and the granskels out north
A hat by the Vikings the salesman held forth
There were waldos, chef hats and French berets
The hat that the pope wore on striped holidays

There were many hats to choose from he tried on each one
But shook his head in disappointment and said I am done.
“There’s not a hat in this store for me” he haughtily declared
When he spied the right one sitting right there.

It had no fancy bells not a horn to be seen
It was crooked and worn not a teeny bit pristine
he stared at it with longing and finally he said
thing one and thing two I wan that on my head

he was no longer a cat roaming through the street
he was a self-assured feline confident and neat
now people all know him as the coolest cat
no longer an outcast but the cat in the hat.

There's always some fish, some solitary fish who's only one wish is to threaten the fun!

Now, if I were a fish, where would I hide a moss-covered, three-handled family gredunza?

Thanks guys! Loving reading some of these comments.

The original title, which I always knew would have to be changed, was "The Cat in the Hat Shop". I liked it but obviously copyright issues.

The following are merely excerpts, my intention only being to state that blatant use of copyrighted material as seen in this shirt does not certainly indicate copyright infringement:

"The fair use of copyrighted works for purposes such as criticism or comment is not an infringement of copyright."

The Supreme Court has unequivocally held that a parody may qualify as fair use. According to the Court, a parody is the “use of some elements of a prior author’s composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author’s works.”

You have the economic gain hurdle that's going to push it out of the realm of fair use, as well as arguing that this is actually parody and not derivative work without permission. Shaky ground to stand on with the Seussian law machine. They go after people.

http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/yuminemma/2009/12/16/satire-or-parody-dr-seuss-enterprises-v-penguin-books-usa/

I hope they don't go after this or Woot, but they don't mess around when it comes to their copyrights.

Just got mine and the design is a little sloppy. In the image on the site there are areas where the color isn't filled in all the way, which looks intentional and gives the image some texture. There are spots on the shirt I got, though, with little patches of red ink in areas that are only white on the site. It's not really the quality I'm used to seeing from these shirts and I'm wondering if mine is a dud or if the whole batch just came out a little funny for some reason.

Sorry you are unhappy with the shirt. I do see some red bleeding into the white on the design but it would be best to let the shirt people check it out.

Could you please, take a picture of the design and of the areas you described? Send these to service@woot.com so they can send them to the shirt people to look at.

I noticed the same thing with my shirt today. I think that because the red & white are supposed to be stripes it grabs you attention when the red is patchy on the white. I will email pics to the shirt people, just so they know what I am seeing. When I looked at the pics I took with my phone on the computer the red-on-white is not very obvious, so I think it must just be an issue of the image file size of the design and the fact that your eyes jump to the out of place red spots when you see the shirt in person. I still like the shirt and the design, but I am glad someone else noticed the color differences, too!
